Someone please explain to me why the U.S. Army is in charge of a salt water marine docking structure. What kind of idiocy is this?

Army idiocy. The Army has a lot of ships for logistics but recently discovered they would have a problem with contested logistics. They seem to lack ships with large guns. The Army is equipped for peacetime logistics.

I’ll do my best to explain the idiocy, although I’m no expert on the Army or idiocy in general. My knowledge on the subject comes from a YouTube channel ‘What’s Going on With Shipping, which I can recommend.

The Army used to have a large number of ships and equipment to deal with landing troops and equipment on shores both hostile and non-hostile. Yes the Navy & Marines do that sort of thing, but then too so does the Army. It does seem counter intuitive, but the Army has always had boats/ships.

All three branches involved have been shedding equipment before the replacements have been built and so when FJB promised a pier for Gaza at the SOTU, they decided to go with what was on hand. At least two or more ships for the mission have had major breakdowns and like most of what Brandon touches, the operation has been FUBAR.
