If some California legislators have their way, your car could soon scold you if you exceed the speed limit. On Tuesday, the state Senate passed SB 961, a bill sponsored by Sen. Scott Wiener. The bill requires passive speed governors to be added to all new cars manufactured or sold in California by 2032. Speed governors would alert drivers with “audible and visual signals when they exceed the speed limit by greater than 10 miles per hour,” a press release from Wiener’s office said.

Will California exist as a State by then or an encampment for illegals and left winger after all the “normal” people flee high taxes and crime.

Just a matter of time until they are programmed to disable the car after three strikes.

We all know it's just step one.

To know what the speed limit is, the car will have to know what road you are on. I assume this means constant tracking of your route, which means constant contact with a GPS service. Someone will know where you are at all times.

The ACTIVE system will come next. Control of your gas pedal by the car's computer, or via telemetry through the GPS service and law enforcement. It's so handy to slow or stop a vehicle without spike strips that LEO's will have this capability in their cars eventually. No more high speed chases!

So glad the last car I bought has no telemetry whatsoever. I drive it until it dies, or I do.

In the meantime, can we just strap Newsom to the bumper?

The vehicles in the CA governor’s entourage will, of course, have NO SUCH LIMITS.

Only the lower classes have to comply.

It doesn’t mean constant tracking. It just requires loading the nav map into your car.

My nav system already provides the speed limit and alerts with a change in color.

Remember this???

“We’re passing a law requiring the wearing of seatbelts, but you’ll NEVER be able to be pulled over for not wearing one. It will only be adjunct to being pulled over for another infraction.”

Anyone that believes this type of nanny state crap is an idiot...

= = =

That would be a current nav map. At your expense.

And it would not have temporary speed changes for construction, etc.

Morons. That is NOT a 'speed governor'.

“via telemetry through the GPS service”

Makes no sense. Comms with GPS satellites is unidirectional.
