George Floyd’s Uncle Tells How Nephew’s Death Changed His Life
Daily Beast ^ | May 25 | Tom Lawrence

On the fourth anniversary of George Floyd’s death, his uncle Selwyn Jones tells The Daily Beast how his nephew’s brutal killing turned him into an activist.

Every day, Selwyn Jones misses his nephew, George Floyd.

Today marks four years since Floyd, 46, was killed in the custody of the Minneapolis Police Department. In death, he has become a martyr and a symbol of the oppression and violence against Black people at the hands of law enforcement.

But to his uncle, he was a big, good-natured guy who loved to laugh. That’s the person Jones misses seeing and talking to, he told The Daily Beast.

Jones said he was playing softball in Gettysburg, S.D., the small town in the center of the state where he lives, when he learned of his nephew’s death under the knee of Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Since then, he has taken up campaigning against police violence towards Black people and other citizens, as well as speaking out against domestic violence, gun violence and sex trafficking.

“I’m trying to make a difference,” Jones said.

He has made numerous appearances across the country and done countless media interviews. Jones said he feels a duty to speak up so other families don’t have to endure the pain he has been forced to live with for four years.

“It’s been absolutely chaotic ever since,” he said.

Jones started by appearing at demonstrations over Floyd’s death in Rapid City and Sioux Falls that week. He asked for the events to be nonviolent, but the Sioux Falls rally, which had been peaceful, ended in chaos with some people storming a mall and Gov. Kristi Noem calling in the National Guard.

Liberals believe 5,000-10,000 unarmed blacks are killed by cops each year! The real number is around 10, and some of those aren’t entirely clear.

But you cannot change a liberal’s mind. That has been so true in my experience that I’ve concluded they don’t have minds to change!

Exactly- in 2019 only 9 unarmed black men were shot and killed by cops- all but 2 were justifiable as the perps actually did have ‘weapons’ such as vehicles, or a pipe, or whatever they used that wasn’t a ‘traditional weapon’

The 2 cases where the cops were not justified, the cops were tried and convicted-

There are literally millions of cop/perp encounters every year, and almost all of them noone is killed even though the perps are hostile, violent and aggressive- that speaks to the tremendous care with which cops actually conduct encounters with the public-

[[Liberals believe 5,000-10,000 unarmed blacks are killed by cops each year!]]

Facts just simply do not mean a thing to bigots who cry foul against the cops- the facts completely dispute their claims, but no matter- they still insist that their delusional views of cops are accurate-

IF this guy REALLY ants “TO MAKE DIFFERENCE”-—HE needs to work among his own people to get drugs off the streets-—Particularly Fentanyl.

The drug usage among blacks in rampant.

Floyd had enough F in his system to drop a RHINO-—the 4 legged kind.

The media edited the video to make it look like floyd started saying “I can’t breathe,” only after chauvin put him on the ground. In truth floyd was saying it over and over BEFORE he was put on the ground.

Unfortunately, Derek Chauvin was the Judge, Jury, and Executioner on 5/25/20.

Still, I would have tried him for manslaughter. Not murder.

"I meant his nephew. :)"

LOL!! Oh okay. My comment was about the uncle who said his nephew's death changed his life, and I said "He stopped trying to pass counterfeit bills?" I probably should have said "He stopped trying to pass counterfeit bills like his nephew."
