“Reich” (kingdom, realm or state) was applied to the Holy Roman Empire (800-1806). The term was revived in 1871 when 25 German states united to form the German Empire (Deutsches Reich). After the monarchy was overthrown, the Weimar Republic continued to call itself the Deutsches Reich. And after WWII, the East Germans kept the term alive by calling their state railroad the Reichsbahn.

Was the Holy Roman Empire considered to be the 2nd Reich by the NAZI’s?

Never mind my previous post. The Holy Roman Empire was the first reich. The German Empire and the subsequent Weimar Republic were considered to be the second reich.
