I was inside the court when the judge closed the Trump trial, and what I saw shocked me
The New York Post ^ | 05/21/2024 | Alan Dershowitz

*** [I]n my 60 years as a lawyer and law professor, I have never seen a spectacle such as the one I observed sitting in the front row of the courthouse yesterday.

The judge in Donald Trump’s trial was an absolute tyrant, though he appeared to the jury to be a benevolent despot. He seemed automatically to be ruling against the defendant at every turn. Many experienced lawyers raised their eyebrows when the judge excluded obviously relevant evidence when offered by the defense, while including irrelevant evidence offered by the prosecution.

But when the defense’s only substantive witness, the experienced attorney Robert Costello, raised his eyebrows at one of New York Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan’s rulings, the court went berserk. Losing his cool and showing his thin skin, the judge cleared the courtroom of everyone including the media. For some reason, I was allowed to stay, and I observed one of the most remarkable wrong-headed biases I have ever seen. The judge actually threatened to strike all of Costello’s testimony if he raised his eyebrows again. ***

I am one of the few witnesses to his improper conduct who remained behind to observe his deep failings.

Even when journalists do report on courtroom proceedings, their accounts must be taken with a grain of salt. When you watch CNN or MSNBC, you generally see an account of a trial that never took place.

*** There is absolutely no good reason why a trial of this importance, or any trial, should not be televised live and in real time. ***As Justice Louis Brandeis wisely said a century ago, “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.”*** Today there is no check on partisan reporting of trials and exaggerations and personal opinions are rampant. ***

Don't forget Biden's reliance on this:

At least half a bottle an hour before the debate.

‘Every man and woman should worry, “What if they did that to me?”’

Too many Democrats are in denial.

Alan is naive. He expected a fair trial. In his favor, he’s a fair-minded man and a great legal scholar. But bullies beat up star pupils on the playground of reality.

Can a judge throw out material evidence and testimony over a raised eyebrow?

That sounds illegal.

Most of the people who can afford to make a trip to a Trump rally are working 5 days a week, anyway.

HE is still holding rallies & they will only get larger & larger as fall comes.

This judge is nothing more than a child in a man’s body. I suspect his diaper has to be changed every few hours, just like biden’s and pelosi’s.

The travesties of justice taking place daily will require the execution of many politicians, judges, and members of the executive branch. And the Democrat party will have to be dissolved and those who are presently part of it permanently barred from participating in politics in any way, including voting. Nothing short of this will be remotely sufficient to right these wrongs.

We now known why there were no cameras in the Trump trial courtroom. Juan knew he was going to have to put his big thumb on the balance pans of justice to hear "Guilty!" from the jury. I'm sure he remembers the O. J. Simpson trial, being televised for the nation to see. The last thing he needed was recorded evidence of his actions. Too bad (for the judge) there was an excellent witness in the courtroom on the final day of defense presentation.

Assume the worst: jury does return a verdict of guilty. How can Trump's team get a stay? I'm sure that the defense lawyers are putting in overtime preparing an appeal to be files 20 minutes after the jury come back thumbs-down.

But that assumes they all come back with big frowns. A number of talking heads have assumed that the jury consists of twelve dyed-in-the-wool elite-loving leftist Democrats who thinks that this country is under the rule of men, instead of the rule of law. It only takes one rule-of-law believer to upset the attempt at lawfare. Yes, yes, I know this is New York City. Yes, yes, I know that the prosecution put every single prospective juror through microscopic evaluation for low IQ and high loyalty to the Klanettes.

They can't all be Bums, could they?

This is a forgone conclusion...the jury will find Trump guilty. The outcome was already decided before opening arguments

America shouldn’t have to put up with this. We’re not Stalin’s USSR.

Maybe we're not, but we're well on the way there.

Exactly. They know Trump will be convicted on at least one count, and THAT is their out for not debating.

Biden can then claim he was more than willing to debate, made the offer, but no way he will debate a felon now.

Finding 12 bums in the city or state of NY, try more like 12 HUNDRED THOUSAND.

The trick in that state is finding 12 HONEST MEN OR WOMEN!

That’s why NEW YORK IS A SHITHOLE!

There is no question Trump will be found guilty. No question at all.

Any juror that votes not guilty will have their life destroyed, their family destroyed and their kids destroyed.

That juror (and his family) will be doxxed, harassed, or worse for the rest of their lives.

Democrats and the far left will demand that.
