I heard people suggesting that the judge should allow the jury to consider the lesser charge of misdemeanor?

I heard speculation that the judge might tell the jury to not put too much emphasis on the other crime?

I thought if there was no other crime then the misdemeanors must be thrown out as past the statute of limitations. How can a jury even consider the lesser charge? Isn't it an all or nothing case here?

You are spot on. The misdemeanor option, given their expiration, is only available if the alleged booking keeping falsification was in furtherance of another crime. The other crime is still a mystery.
