On Monday’s broadcast of Fox 5’s “Good Day New York,” Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) claimed that President Joe Biden can’t reverse his reversal of former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies because “The law on asylum is really clear. If you have a colorable claim that you’re coming from a horrible country that has horrible things happening, you have a right to come here.”
Gillibrand said, “President Trump — former President Trump has come out to say, I don’t want any fixes to immigration, which is just cynical and terrible for a state like New York, because we need these laws changed.”
Co-host Rosanna Scotto then said, “But the President can change it with — he can make his own change. He got rid of them within the first 100 days [he was in office].”

The international law stipulates that if you are in danger of death or jail for political reason or group persecution (like Jews in Germany), you should be given asylum.

YOU MUST APLY FOR ASYLUM IN THE FIRST COUNTRY IT IS SAFE FOR YOU TO DO!
That at minimum Mexico, if not e.g. Guatemala or Ecuador.
Practically only Cuban refuges can apply for asylum in the US, nd only if they can prove thay were pesecuted there.

Fist of all you have to be persecuted for political or religious or nationality reason.
E. G. President Trump would have legitimate claims of asylum in Canada or Mexico.
If you are just born in shitty country, that is not reason to ask for asylum.
These people mix up asylum (rater exceptional thing) and immigration. If you coming from shitty country, you are free to apply there, for immigration from there here. (Legal immigration)
And US is free to grand you that wish or not (It is deems you will be good for US).
Just showing illegally in the US and claiming you were in danger because gangs were operating nearby where you were living is not at all reason to grant asylum!
A colorable claim, or plausible case, is a legal argument that appears valid and reasonable at first glance, even if it may not ultimately succeed in court.
In normal language you would also say “plausible case” instead of “colorable claim”

Where does this “right to come here” crap come from? This woman is certifiably nuts.
Has Gillibrand or Biden done an analysis on how many people that would be? Four billion?
Schumer gave a big speech on the floor of the Senate claiming Trump and Republicans oppose their efforts to secure the border because Democrats are trying to make the border security “too strong” for them.
The continuing narrative is that the reason the border is out of control is because Republicans - at the behest of Trump - did not pass a bill in 2024. Somehow, that caused Biden to issue all of those executive orders in 2021 weakening border security dramatically and reversing Trump policies which had been successful. Republicans in 2024 somehow caused Biden to do all of that back in 2021.
But the press, of course, does not mention all of Biden’s actions in 2021 and goes along with it being that it is Trump and the Republicans who have caused it and Biden is being hamstrung in his desire to fix it.
Asylum should be exceptional.
Really just for the people afraid for their lives, running away just to save it.
Leaving everything, running away, and coming to the nearest country, which will not send them back.
Think Jews running from Hitler or Russians running from Cheka.
Nothing about better life, just about saving it, for any cost.
Trump was actually trying to implement the law, as it is written.
