State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan cleared the courtroom Monday over a dramatic spat with the defense’s first main witness, Robert Costello, causing a period of mayhem at former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial.
Mr. Costello, a lawyer who once spoke to Trump lawyer-turned-accuser Michael Cohen, seemed to take exception to one of Judge Merchan’s objection rulings, uttering “Jeez,” and then sighing, “Strike it.”
“You don’t say ‘jeez.’ And you don’t say “strike it,’ because I’m the only one who strikes it,” Judge Merchan told Mr. Costello, an experienced attorney and prosecutor.
He also told him not to give him the “side eye” and, his voice rising, asked: “Are you staring me down right now?”
“Clear the courtroom!” Judge Merchan said.

I’m sure the “jury” is all for it. They can’t wait to come back with a guilty verdict so they can all go on the TV shows and write books about how they, for the first time, convicted a former President of the US.

Yes they do. But if they convict, half the country will see them as ethicless, brainless, corrupt and easily led idiots who let their politics and hatred of a man lead them to disregard all justice and common sense. If they convict I can only hope that each one of them encounters a fate worse than death or that they come before a corrupt judge and DA that gives them zero justice.

No the judge doesn’t have absolute control over the behavior of witnesses.
He can control the questions asked, he can prevent irrelevant or prejudicial answers, etc.
But can he appropriately yell at a witness for giving him a “side eye” or for rolling his eyes? Should he angrily adjourn because the witness denied staring at him?
Judges behave as intolerant aholes every day of the week. Doesn’t mean they should.
I’d say the judge’s emotional behavior was over the top.
Especially because this was the first Trump witness and it looks like the judge can’t stand it.
The judge is a deludinoid.

I checked similarities between the nazi judge and Marchan an the copilot on my msn said one was a raving nazi and Marchan simply handles high profile cases they are nothing alike...hahahhahaah...thats my joke de jour.

Assistant prosecutor Merchand was taken aback by the defense’s first witness who was ripping apart within minutes 4 weeks of the prosecutor’s case in which Merchand juggled the law and allowed inadmissible testimony with his rulings to get this train to the conviction station before election. Sucks to be him with his case falling apart even with the favorable jury he engineered for the case
