RE: Piggly Wiggly.
Young Clarence Saunders was a clerk at a grocer’s store in Tennessee. In 1916 he had been suggesting new ideas one time too many so the annoyed boss fired him.
He went across the street with his new idea of shoppers being able to select their own items using a cart or basket and pay at the end at a cashier. Replaced having the grocer or staff member go to get each item. When people couldn’t see the price of items in the back they might be embarrassed. This new system solved that. People could compare prices and sizes on their own.
Today, stores in dangerous Dem cities have bullet resistant glass and carousels to dispense items from the clerk in return for money on the rotating payment tray. And more and more drug stores are removing high theft items from being at hand for the shoppers.
Just like before 1916.
