The best explanation for how Hamas was able to do what they did Oct 7 is because young Israelis are part of our social media culture and they crave the relative normalcy that their counterparts in places like America and Europe have.

This had cast a normalcy bias spell on Israelis under say 50 years old which was being exploited for political gain by the Israeli Left to gain power and fundamentally transform Israeli society

This causes them to block out the fact they are surrounded by some of the most violent, murderous and sadistic people on the planet and these people have focused their lives on the rape and murder of Jews and the destruction of Israel.

Oct 7 was not so much an intelligence failure as it was a reality check for the people of Israel.

The people of Israel live in a bad neighborhood surrounded by people whose sole purpose in life from the time they are born is devoted to hating Jews and plotting and training to rape and murder them in the most horrific manner possible. They blocked out memory of this most basic fact of life and paid terrible price for this.
