I once thought Gavin Newsom was being groomed to step in, but then he seemed to fade when California experienced a nearly $30B dollar budget deficit (really about $45B). I really do not know who might pop up if not Newsom.

Newsom was definitely being groomed but the huge deficit (~$70B) amid all the other messes in the once Golden State have finally begun to take a toll.
