Benjamin Netanyahu: Not such a bad guy!; The leftist media despise him, but the truth is that he is arguably the greatest world leader of the last fifty years

In the words of Shakespeare: Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. Such is Benjamin Netanyahu.

Presently, the world press is tearing this man down, but he is arguably the greatest world leader of the past fifty years.

Does he have his faults? Yes! Who doesn’t?

But Netanyahu has had to navigate his country’s security through the decades when even his “friends” (Clinton, Bushes 1 & 2, Obama) wanted to enforce policies on Israel that were self-destructive. And his country had little margin of error if things went wrong.

Soon after he announced a new world order, George Bush, Sr. started pressuring Israel to accept the Oslo process at Madrid in 1991.  The Arabist James Zogby has praised Bush Sr. for doing so.

“Bush established consequences for bad behavior, and he got results,” said James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute. “It can happen again.”

Bush Sr. was praised for being even-handed between the Arabs and the Israelis, but he was in bed with Arab oil money and interests.  Netanyahu’s so-called “corruption” pales by comparison.

Clinton thought he had brought peace in 1993 with the Oslo Accords.  That was a failure.

Bush Jr. was also part of this Bush-Saudi oil interest.  His administration would later encourage Israel to allow the 2006 elections in Gaza (with the approval of Jimmy Carter) that would get Hamas elected.

The Carter Centre and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) considered the 2006 elections to have “compared favorably to international standards ... with polling results reflect[ing] the will of the people.”

Of course, it is now obvious that the Palestinians were never interested in peace, but rather in conquest.  Netanyahu was warning everyone about that, even in the 1990s.

Has Netanyahu made mistakes. Who hasn’t.

You weren’t specific; I thought you were talking about President Trump.

I don’t agree with you on Netanyahu but on the subject of his governance of Israel “reasonable people can disagree”.

Peace.

How Trump could have had anything to do with the lockdowns in Israel and some of the most stringent jab requirements in the world is beyond me.

However, if you would give Bibi a pass on this because his militarism is now facing away from his own people, I don't think we will agree on him.

Cheers.

That is Bibi. Widely used photo in Israel.

Thanks! Today I found the photo online identified as Bibi.

Bibi made a mistake on 10/7.

The South Koreans wouldn't have made that mistake. Their border is secure with thousands of troops and land mines.

Israel's "high tech" fence failed on 10/7.

Bibi made a mistake on 10/7.

Apparently Bibi made a series of mistakes long before 10/7. He had the head of Massad facilitate Qatar funding of Hamas. Ostensibly this was to buy Hamas off, but it was more likely that his intent was to keep the Gazans from having a government stable enough for there to be pressure to make a peace deal. That and the fact that Hamas was allowed a 20 hour ramp and murder rampage should be enough to permanently end his career.

He is a long-time friend of Mitt Romney and was one of the first world leaders to congratulate Biden. Freepers should be careful before giving him their unconditional support.

From what I understand, Bibi didn't want the PLO to gain momentum with a peace deal.

Maybe the time was not right for Yasser Arafat to agree to the peace deal. He did not want to meet the same fate as Anwar Sadat.

But with him gone, maybe the PLO is willing to make the peace deal. Hard to say.

Bibi was being Machiavellian so he wanted to play off Hamas against PLO.

That and the fact that Hamas was allowed a 20 hour ramp and murder rampage should be enough to permanently end his career.

After the war ends in Rafah, they should call for new elections in Israel. The Americans should butt out.
