I hope that the Dad makes his son clean up the damage even if it takes days. No food or water or sleep until it is cleaned up. That is what my dad would have done to me if I f’ed up like that.

It would be a proper education for the boy, however I don't think they will let him anywhere near any monument.

Vandalism like that should be removed and repaired by a professional to prevent further accidental damage to an irreplaceable monument.

There are other non critical public constructions he can clean until his fingers are sore.
