I married into a Jewish family but for the life of me I don’t understand how “Christ is King” is even remotely anti-Semitic. I would love for some Jewish Freeper to explain it.
No true Christian is going to tolerate being self-censored on this issue.
True. That said, it is an observable fact (alas) that the phrase has been co-opted by splinter groups who are in fact hateful, and some of them are sort of monarchist Catholics who are in fact privately eager to talk about white supremacy....not just the superiority of western civ., but white Europeans as a race.
I found this fact to be sort of scary.
Especially because the Christian Reformed subculture uses the phrase “Christ is King” often and it’s not really a dog whistle for anything. Well, ok, maybe it’s a dog whistle for predestination....within that subculture.
But the monarchist/white supremacist crowd that circulate in tiny numbers throughout the conservative movement are not good people, they do not like America, and they are actually a bit racist and often anti-Semitic in addition to being stridently anti-Israel.
I don’t believe (or agree) that Candace is anti-Semitic. She is critical of Israel, and of the US’ relationship with Israel. I’d say most of us here at FR don’t agree with her on that, but I’d like to think that most of us should always pay attention, keep an open mind, continually re-assess our relationship with Israel, and listen carefully to Thomas Massie and others.
And on social media platforms, sadly, it is advisable to not re-post somethign put up by someone who is saying often and loudly “Christ is King” because if you scroll back through their content, you might find some very non-American, non-Christian, and non-conservative stuff in there. That’s just a sad reality.
(and I think that those who use the correct and beautiful phrase “Christ is King” in this way are in fact using the Lord’s name in vain, and that is always always always wrong)
