A Senate Armed Services hearing turned heated this week when Sen. Angus King, chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee, laid into John Hill, deputy assistant defense secretary for space and missile defense, about why the Biden administration’s 2025 missile defense budget request falls far short on funding to maintain readiness against the growing threat of hypersonic missiles from adversaries — namely Russia.
“We have no defense for hypersonic missiles, yes or no? Mr. Hill? Any defense on hypersonic missile?” Mr. King asked during one exchange. If Russia launches a hypersonic missile traveling 6,000 mph and “you are the commander of an aircraft carrier in the Greenland gap … what do you do?” he asked.
Mr. Hill responded: “We have some systems in the terminal stage, but we need more. You are correct … our hypersonic defenses are inadequate. SM-67 is in the Navy’s terminal range Patriot … No argument, we need to focus on hypersonic defenses.”

I bet the Russians do or have somethings under development.

But they will need Western chips which are embargoed. China can sell them 7nm chips which are not as good.
Not really...there’s still Kamala’s hyena laugh.
Aegis, our current naval anti-missile defense system, tracks missiles and projects their course and speed. Regardless how fast that missile is traveling, if a ship fires an anti-missile missile that will intercept the missile along it’s project flight path, it will shoot the missile down. If the hyper-sonic missile is fired close enough that there is not enough reaction time than countermeasures include the AN-SLQ-32 to jam the missile, the phalanx system to track and shoot-down the missile, as well as Chaff.
If an extended range Standard missile (SM-6) can intercept a ballistic missile than it can intercept a hypersonic missile. Remember Ukraine shoot down Russian hypersonic missiles using the Patriot system.
So...we can’t adequately defend ourselves, but the ‘troops’ are doing well in their transgender studies and woke assignments.
We are so screwed. Likely will take a whole boatload of us aging veterans to get us through the next war. I can’t march as far as I could fifty years ago, but I can still hit a target out to 800 yards or so... Count me in, if it comes to it.
“”””Because if we stopped antagonizing Russia the military industrial complex wouldn’t have a reason to keep spending money that we don’t have on them. It’s all a gigantic scam but unfortunately most Americans fall for it.””””
Sing it brother.

I’m hardly naive enough to think that we don’t need a sufficient level of defense. I do however have a problem with these never ending wars that consume an inordinate amount of US wealth. How is Russia able to maintain military parity with the US yet only spend 1/10 as much? The arms industry is a total scam on the American people. If you haven’t figured that out yet than you are the one who is naive.
Russia doesn’t.
Would you want Americans to be suffering the massive losses in men and materials that Russia is suffering in invading their next door neighbor or in the way they fight period, using inferior weapons and using mass deaths to make up for them?
What would happen if a second front opened against Russia, for instance China or NATO, or North Korea for that matter, Russia has little air capability and nothing much in the way of a Navy, they are not a peer, their major threat is nuclear and to land they can drive to, Europe.
You’ve been propagandized to the hilt and have fallen for deep state talking points. The US intentionally provoked Russia using Ukraine. US intelligence has installed every Ukrainian leader since 2014. This has been the CIA’s plan for more than a decade. They thought they could wear Russia down, collapse their economy, and unseat Putin. The ultimate plan was to break up Russia into several pieces.
Well your buddies the neocons failed on all accounts just like they’ve failed in every other foreign policy endeavor they’ve attempted. But clueless people like you still support them. You obviously haven’t a clue as to what is going on in the geopolitical realm. You fall for the simplistic Russia bad - kind of like their propaganda of orange man bad except directed towards the right. It’s getting hard to save America when most of the population is fooled by the never ending bs the elites put out.
Well, that didn’t last long, you had to revert to your nasty name calling, troll self.
Exactly what nasty name are you accusing me of calling you?
No it can’t shoot down a hypersonic cruise missile. Not with its current capabilities.
I’m not talking about electronics but hard kill methods.
You got it and its only part of the problem.
The story about the Patriot shooting down the Kinzhal missiles is YouTube/Business Insider propaganda garbage.
“+1 for Black Sabbath. They figured it all out way back then.”
Interesting note about that... The faithful automatically knee jerk and relate the name “Black Sabbath” with devil worship. Have they even read the words to their songs? Apparently not... It is pure judgement without basis. Many of their songs are the opposite and actually righteous. 12th century superstition of just a label without knowing the contents...
Well said... I have been there with this user before. Full on establishmentarian who either believes the lies, or is a promoter of the lies doing damage control. There is either ignorance or purpose involved here... I lean towards purpose.
+1000!
I agree all defense funding should be dedicated to rolling Russia back into the region around Moscow and some swamps to the east. Keep them on the reservation so civilization can proceed without them.
I spent two years at the AEGIS Combat Systems Engineering Development site in Moorestown, NJ. How are you qualified to evaluate our capabilities? YouTube?
I work on AEGIS all the time for the US Navy, allies and other things for a variety of applications. I’m well connected and you are FOS!
