Israel and Egypt both receive an annual stipend from the US government after both agreed under a Kissinger agreement to the demilitarization of the Sinai and an Israeli withdrawal. It has worked well for nearly fifty years to keep the peace between Egypt and Israel, and in great part accounts for Egypt’s hands-off policy with regard to the present circumstance in Gaza.
