AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas voters said they’re leaning more toward sending Sen. Ted Cruz back to Washington rather than unseat him in November, according to new polling numbers released Wednesday.
The April poll conducted by the University of Texas and the Texas Politics Project showed the two-term Republican incumbent leading U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, his Democratic challenger, by double digits.
Pollsters asked a group of 1,200 registered voters between April 12-22 who they would support in the U.S. Senate race if the election was held today. A plurality of the respondents (46%) said they’d vote for Cruz, while 33% shared Allred would get their vote — a difference of 13 percentage points between the two candidates.
The poll also found 15% of these Texas voters had yet to make up their mind on the race, while 7% said they’d rather support someone else.

Absolutely true. But still I was surprised a few months back when a poll had Cruz, if I remember, essentially tied. We may not win back the presidency and/or house or senate, but in this environment I just dont think substantial rat gains in the State of Texas are within the range of reasonable possibility this year
Cruz was always going to win easily.
The left is still stupid about Beto getting close after the 2016 election. But they just don’t understand that people were just temporarily mad a Cruz because of the race against Trump. There was never any real chance of Texas turning blue.
Allred. You just can’t make this up.
There are 21 percent up for grabs. Anybody who gets those, wins.
His father in law got sick of funding his losing campaigns.
“The left is still stupid about Beto getting close after the 2016 election.”
It is hard to believe it has been six years since the little runt ran against Cruz.
So true.
Trump will have to do the same to Newsom. I’d prefer DeSantis do the honors. May have to wait till ‘28. DeSantis won their November debate but he didn’t exactly wipe the floor with him.
...”Cruz was always going to win easily.”
as a transplant to The Lone Star State, I take nothing for granted...If my increasingly-feeble memory serves me correctly, the last time Mr Cruz was up against that nutcake Beto, he won but not by the margin everyone though he would....correct me if I am wrong...I stand strongly behind Mr. Cruz and hope he wins big...!!
He’s my Congressman, spit. It’s now a 75% Democrat district, thanks to gerrymandering. The combined vote in the Democrat primary was 700K, Cruz had over 1.5 million.
With all precincts reporting, Cruz won by about 219,000 votes, or 2.6 percentage points, over O’Rourke.Nov 6, 2018
Allred will dominate in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, and Houston. Maybe Ted can still hold on but how much longer than the rural and smaller cities in TX overcome the large cities?
Conservatives were made at Cruz about how the race with Trump for the nomination went. That is the ONLY reason that particular race was close.
Democrats got all excited and thought that maybe Texas was going blue, when that had nothing to do with it.
It was a one of special thing particular to that year, and had nothing to do with silly Beto.
Cruz barely won reelection six years ago.
Just +2.6% against Beto O'Rourke.
How can he win if Democrats and Republicans don’t like him?
but trump served me delicious crow pie and im a diehard trump supporter ever since
relieved trump won over ted
ted has been making some bad votes lately, not sure if i even trust him anymore there needs to be ALOT more walking than talking going on and damn soon.
because that was 6 years ago, and Cruz and Trump have since made up
It’s odd that there is nothing about this polling in the Texas Tribune.
