Most scout troops were sponsored by Evangelical churches, which gave the Boy Scouts an open line to reach boys for membership (that's how I joined.) At the time, it was a wholesome, conservative organization which almost no biblical church would have any problem supporting.

Not any more. My understanding is that the Mormon Church, a HUGE supporter of scouting and local scouting units, pulled its support several years ago when they saw the slide it was taking. It's dying on the vine as a result.

I was a Senior District Executive for the Boy Scouts and although I’m not LDS, I worked closely with a lot of their leaders. Their decision to pull out of of Scouting was more because of their internal politics. The LDS was being pressured from within for equity issues. They were spending a lot more money on their Young Men’s program per child in the US versus all other countries and young women in any other country.

I believe that the LDS affiliation was the doorstop against the BSA going woke. It’s no coincidence that the BSA announced they were allowing girls weeks apart from the LDS’ departure.
