They are trying to say he lied about the nature of the payment (just a lawyer fee) in order to cover for his election bid. It’s hybrid charge (commingling Federal and local law) that will be thrown out as such on appeal.

Because Trump presumably won’t have the benefit of Federal Article III judges examining the record of this case until New York State is totally fine with him.
And New York State will probably take its sweet time inflicting exquisite legal torture upon Trump before finally being done with him.
