UCLA hoped to avoid police crackdown on protesters. What went wrong?

The Palestine Solidarity Encampment at UCLA ended in the precise manner university leaders initially sought to avoid — with a massive police force arresting more than 200 protesters in the dead of night.

When the encampment sprung up on Royce Quad last Thursday, April 25, the university envisioned a world in which students could peacefully display their message on the large green field while students shuttled to class nearby.

Instead, they faced a situation where protesters allegedly blocked student access to classes, counter-protesters violently attacked the encampment, and leaders across the nation condemned the university’s failure to keep students safe.

So how did the situation spiral so out of control?

The simple answer is violence and a lack of action from UCLA to maintain order around the encampment.

“For all the school’s pretense of student safety we’ve experienced an unprecedented amount of violence and hatred while they stood by,” said a student protest leader on Tuesday, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns.

Besides their ideological agreement, administrators should realize it’s in their best interests to u equivocally say YOU DONT GET TO DO THIS. Allowing disruption of their highly lucrative business will cause them far more in money and prestige that the nostalgic thrill they get by tolerating this lawlessness

I read that some CEO of some company offered protestors jobs in his company, THEN their stock lost 210 million dollars.

Excuse me. You are protesting in *support* of the unprovoked slaughter of innocent men, women, and children, and you expect the university to *protect* you while you protest? How is it possible to be so stupid?

They're democrats/leftists.

Or entitled overgrown children who never faced consequences for their actions.

Same difference, really.......

The administration was hoping to avoid a police intervention but the protestors were hoping for another Kent State.

They could’ve let people protest during reasonable hours, without letting them disturb classes, camp out, build barricades, block access, hand out wristbands as some kind of loyalty pledge to pass through the the gates and stuff like that. They should have nipped all that kind of crap in the bud on day one. No camping, no blockaded areas etc. If they took those away on hour one or day one it wouldn’t have become such a crap show.

Since the shooting of Ashli Babbit it’s apparently AOK to shoot unarmed protestors now

Most of these protests include a large share of paid protesters that don’t attend the university. They are trespassing, harassing the legal students …. Never should have allowed them a foot on campus.

And then this scum “requested anonymity due to safety concerns.” I’ll bet that the Israeli victims on October 7th had a few safety concerns too.

From the provocateurs' point of view, nothing "went wrong", a point the LA Daily Noose carefully steps around. Fully half of the agitators at Columbia were not from the school and I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn the same at the other side of the country. They aren't there to "peacefully" protest anything, they're there to create chaos and undercut social order, and to get sensational publicity while they're doing it. Which the media joyfully give them.

This process is enabled by government lack of action, not by overreaction - recall that the Los Angeles County District Attorney is George Gascón, a Soros plant who narrowly escaped recall by virtue of stuffed ballot boxes and who was endorsed by, well whaddaya know - the LA Daily News! So no, nothing went wrong, it's all part of the plan.

The UHaul Unicorn Rental place ran out. 🦄🦄Free Trade sourced peanut free, organic, non-gmo, gluten-free foods and almond milk along with spring water was not delivered on time.🍽️🍽️

Rioters had no choice but to stay and trash the campus.

“UCLA hoped to avoid police crackdown on protesters. What went wrong?”

Maybe as Mark Twain once said:“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”

Stories are coming out now that at Columba and at UCLA and others, Jewish students (actual registered students) were confronted and surrounded everywhere they went on campus and sneered at or yelled at for being Jewish. They were turned back from the library. Rioters chanted against them.

That is not the imaginary peaceful protest in the Leftist news stories.
