Apparently Boston Market got sued for not paying their employees in Florida.

That was bad enough, but they weren't paying their suppliers either. US Foods dinged them for almost $12 million. And I wonder if they were paying their lawyers - looks like that was a default judgment https://www.nrn.com/fast-casual/boston-market-ordered-pay-119-million-us-foods-default-judgment-decision for bad faith and failing to meet their obligations to the court.

Boston Market started out as Boston Chicken. Then some investors convinced Kenny Rogers to put his name on a chicken place which they spewed out across the US. In order to stay competitive, BC became BM and expanded their menu.

Nowadays if a new type of restaurant succeeds then a dozen more are started just like it and spread across the country with debt financing.

It becomes a game of chicken to see which will last. There was the roasted chicken craze, then the luxury burger craze, then the sub craze, then the spicy chicken craze, now the chicken nugget craze.

In the long run only the lawyers and accountants end up in the black.
