Agreed. I think the Republicans need to replace Johnson at some point, but this article is really a lot of over reaction and spin, over nothing. Whatley is looking at this from the point of view of someone whose job it is to deliver as many Republican victories in November as he can. It’s natural for him to want Republicans to be united, heading into November.
Now I’m not saying that MTG or the rest of the House Freedom Caucus should bow down to Whatley. They’ve got to do what they think is best. But Whatley’s not a policy guy. He’s a “let’s get Republicans elected” guy so if wants to weigh in, that’s fine. House Republicans are free to listen to him or ignore him as they see fit.
