Report: RNC Chair Michael Whatley Backs Off Pledge to Spend ā€˜All Day Every Dayā€™ Working to Elect Donald Trump to Instead Try to Save Mike Johnson

The newly installed chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC) is already backing down from his pledge to spend ā€œevery dayā€ of 2024 to elect presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump as president again to instead spend most of Tuesday trying to save the embattled House Speaker Mike Johnson from justice, a report from Politico Playbook on Wednesday shows.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), an actual conservative and actual Republican, has been making moves against Johnson for his various betrayals in recent weeks including passing a bloated government funding plan that gave Democrats everything they wanted, casting the deciding vote for continuing warrantless surveillance of American citizens in the renewal of section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and finally in passing a giant foreign aid package that among other things sends billions more in American tax dollars to the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky. Greene is moving forward with calling a privileged vote on her previously introduced motion to vacate against Johnson, she is expected to announce on Wednesday morning at a press conference.

Her move comes after, in exchange for his repeated betrayals of Republicans, Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced on Tuesday that Democrats would vote for the motion to table Greene's motion to vacateā€”effectively saving Johnson from ouster. The Democratsā€™ unprecedented move is a bald power grab by the minority party in the sharply-divided chamber, and effectively seals their control over what happens on the floor of the House for the rest of Johnson's tenure however short or long that may be as Speaker of the House.

What's particularly interesting about all of this however is that Whatley has somehow managed to worm his way into the discussion, and on the Democrat side of Jeffries and Johnson rather than on the side of Republicans no less.

ā€œMichael Whatley, the newly installed RNC co-chair, had already briefed Greene's fellow House Republicans on the importance of party unity that morning, but Greene didn't show. He delivered his pointed message to her personally: Don't move against Johnson,ā€ Politico Playbook reported on Wednesday morning.... (more, at link) ...

Five Ways Campus Turmoil Hurts Democrats and America

COMMENTARY

By Charles Lipson - RCP ContributorApril 30, 2024

Higher education is sinking lower and lower. Thatā€™s bad news for our country, which has benefited enormously from having the worldā€™s best system of higher education. And itā€™s bad news for Democrats, who face a tight election. Their party is closely tied to education at all levels, especially at elite universities. It is the party of experts, after all, and the party of the left. Universities are both. Moreover, since the Democrats control the Executive Branch, the public holds them primarily accountable for ensuring social order. Their failures are obvious to the average voter. Thatā€™s bound to hurt Democratic Party candidates in November.

Parents with children in college or expected to matriculate soon have every right to expect their kids can learn in peace, hear diverse viewpoints, and speak freely without threats, intimidation, or indoctrination. Thatā€™s true whether the parents are Jewish or not. Decent Americans wonā€™t tolerate threats against Jewish students any more than they would tolerate them against blacks, Muslims, Christians, or Asian Americans. Yet they now see those threats against Jewish students every day, and, at many universities, they donā€™t see administrators standing up for their rights.

Parents donā€™t understand why their kids arenā€™t being protected. They are unhappy that classes have been canceled and graduation ceremonies relegated to Zoom. They are dismayed that their tax money is being flushed down a sinkhole of anti-American propaganda. They wonder what in the world has happened to once-respected institutions. Good question.

These problems are bad news for Democrats generally. That they come in an election year gives them immediacy. Support for terrorists on the part of students and some faculty, combined with huge, sometimes violent, demonstrations hurts Democrats in several ways.

The first, and most obvious, is that Democrats and universities are seen as ideological soulmates. That association is particularly prominent in Ivy League schools, Stanford, and flagship state universities, such as the University of Michigan and the University of Texas. It is pervasive in the humanities division at every school, from Princeton to Northeast Podunk State. You are as likely to find a Republican professor of English as a Republican at NPR.

If faculty members kept their lockstep ideological fervor to themselves, their courses would be properly insulated from partisan politics. They arenā€™t. In fact, faculty are happy to proclaim their views in class and, worse, to insist their students fall in line. Many professors are proud ideologues, intolerant of other views. Some are outright propagandists. They expect students to parrot those views or pay the price. Thatā€™s wrong. Itā€™s a betrayal of what higher education should be.

The public can now see this bias thanks to campus demonstrations. They can see the pernicious effects of identity politics, dividing the world into the ā€œoppressedā€ (who are deemed righteous) and the ā€œoppressorsā€ (who are deemed guilty), based solely on their identity. They can see the sneering contempt for alternative views, or even common sense.

This repressive, illiberal campus culture is a grievous problem for universities. It has become a problem for Democrats, too, because they have been so close to universities for so long. They cannot escape that association now that it has turned toxic. Thatā€™s true even though most mainstream Democrats are appalled by the violence and intolerance they see on campus. Yet they are inextricably linked to it in the public mind, with no easy escape.

Hmmmmm, what to think of this.

I have not heard Pres. Trump come out and say anything negative against Sneaker Johnson.

In fact, what I have heard is very positive.

MTG needs to back off at this point IMHO.

She has exposed Johnson and he can be dealt with after Trump is President.

We don’t need all this infighting.

Just my 2 cents, that is now worth 1/2 a cent.

šŸ˜”šŸ˜”WTH, dear Jane??!! I hope Lara Trump reads him the riot act. After 38 years as a dem, I ONLY registered as a pubbie to be able to vote for my favorite POTUS in our closed MD primaries. At this rate, I doubt I’ll have a party come 2028. The GOP doesn’t seem to care to fight for our country and couldn’t care less about losing.

If this story is true, and, Whatley is in fact pulling this nefarious stunt, I would think that Lara Trump will light him up...up one side, and, down the other.

Meghan McCain: ā€˜Trump is going to winā€™

By Paul Bedard
May 1, 2024 10:29 am

Meghan McCain has sized up the 2024 race.

And surprise of surprises, she thinks itā€™s former President Donald Trumpā€™s to win.

ā€œTrump is going to win,ā€ she tweeted.

And her reasoning was based on President Joe Bidenā€™s rush to pay off the loans of deadbeat college students.

Meg sees the writing on the wall.

Not only the rush to pay off college for deadbeat students, but, their latest outrageous move ... providing housing and all kinds of FREEBIES to Gaza refugees, they’ll be importing.

šŸ˜”šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬

Maybe even The Meg has had enough.

I wonder if her mom, Cindy agrees??

Also, does this bode well for President Trump’s chances in Arizona??

Itā€™s it funny, how they are trying to keep President Trump off the Campaign trail, but his poll numbers rising like never before!

Even if @realDonaldTrump wasnā€™t campaigning at all, we would still re-elect him by a landslide this Country has never seen before. He does not need to convince us on the Campaign stage, he has convinced us already over four amazing years in the White House and he convinces us every day while he is going through this ordeal for us, this is true love for America! The only way it would affect the McCainiacs here in AZ is if Meghan was to endorse Trump.

I can’t see her doing that though.

If she were to admit that the ByeDone Regime has been an abject failure, which is the truth, that would help.
