Fidelity’s 2024 State of Retirement Planning shows that TikToker @my_secrets_untold is part of the “new retirement,” wherein 57% of Americans plan to keep working after retirement — at least part-time.
Of those planning to delay retirement, two-thirds are in the same boat as @my_secrets_untold: they’re doing it out of financial necessity.
Working past 65 will give you a greater safety net because you’ll still have income coming in. You can’t just rely on Social Security, which currently doesn’t offer most retirees enough money to live on — particularly when paying for health care (a major concern for many Fidelity respondents).
Although working past retirement may not sound ideal, 68% of people surveyed by Fidelity said they’re looking forward to it. Many retirees end up feeling aimless and bored after they’ve left the workforce behind.

Both are Ponzi Schemes. What’s your point?
Retirement can be boring. At times.
Agreed...
If she has normal income or better than normal, she can overcome this fairly easily if she stops eating out three times a week, Getting door dash the other four nights, ordering crap from Amazon, and then going on a budget.
They can’t (?) kill ya.
...yet!
Canada has emulated European Socialist countries and have pushed voluntary euthanasia for a variety of real or imagined maladies, including depression.
That is so unrealistic for so many people. Then on top of that, they feel put upon if they discover themselves still having to work when they reach that "magical" age of 62, 65, or whatever we set the retirement age at these days.
Ironically, those who are most financially able to quit working at an earlier age are also those much more likely to keep on working as they are high-achievers and cannot imagine sitting around the house with nothing to do but watch TV or play Bingo at the rec hall. Take Donald Trump for example, nearly 80 years old, with billions of dollars, and he's still running circles around folks half his age.
Americans have been sold a stupid dream. Work until your 60s and then enjoy a life of leisure. All the retirement brochures show that mythical 65-year-old couple on the cover, walking hand in hand on some beach, "without a care in the world" as the brochure states inside.
Well, you can have that walk on the beach today while still working. It's called vacation. Don't let them sell you a dream.
John Ankerberg referenced it in another video; balance of power shifting to Europe. America is reduced to a second-rate power.
Obama’s stated goal was “America brought down to the same level as the rest of the world.”
Thats a whole lotta crazy cat lady in the works....
Social Security will very likely be 15%-20% LESS than it is now for her in 25 years when she will probably collect.
Saving 25% of your income for retirement would be fantastic of course but just too much of a stretch for most people who have mortgages to pay and kids to raise.
Not that saving a million in some 401k will guarantee you a comfortable requirement. The most you should take out of an IRA at retirement is about 4% a year. So a million dollars even would allow you to comfortably take out $40,000 the first year of retirement (with the theory that the remaining $960,000 will regain some of the original value over that year through investment choices).
Coupled with Social Security, most people can make that work but it will still be a retirement of clipping coupons and going to the matinee shows and early-bird specials, as opposed to the mythologized retirement of golfing all day and walking the sunny beaches in some tropical paradise.
Give me a heads up when they start the ‘mandatory’ euthanasia. 💉
That cat is our government..
She won’t die in the cubicle…her employer will simply get rid of her because of the rising cost of her future medical insurance plan because she’s old.
Based on history, 4% won’t work. More like 2.7 to 3.
I am sure most people are not putting enough into their 401K, if they even have one.
There is no accountability for how student loan funds are spent.
You could by car, take a cruise using the funds.
Fentanyl?
Just find a sucker like me, look nice and convince me she’ll love me and stand by me forever
As soon as I give her a card that says I’ll pay off her debt, she’ll soon find a boyfriend that she says “they really love each other.” And see ya
Then a lawyer will try to steal as much $$ as he can to support the liar while she waits for her boyfriend to divorce his wife….
I’m still working full time at age 74. My “retirement” job is retail sales of fine wines and spirits and I love it. Previously, I was a college professor, lobbyist and government affairs specialist. My job pays enough to cover my living expenses and is for me stress free. My wife is now retired from her college teaching job and is starting a new career in graphic design. While we enjoy time off especially in the summer when we are at our cabin in northern Minnesota, neither of us could just spend our “retirement” doing nothing.
Unfortunately many people think social security is their retirement fund.
