The Soviet-Afghan War destroyed Afghanistan and eventually the Soviet Union, which dissolved in 1991 into 15 republics. Numerous satellite states in Europe were liberated at the same time.
History may repeat as the Russia-Ukraine war weakens Moscow, financially and geopolitically. Russia’s 2022 invasion was about reoccupying a former colony, Ukraine, but there are other Russian republics that hope to become liberated...
… in December 1991, Ukrainians voted for independence and Ukraine became the first of the Soviet republics to leave. The Baltic republics followed, as did Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and others. Now there is unrest across the Russian Federation…
… a story in the Moscow Times in February:
“Russian indigenous and minority activists have long warned that the Kremlin is banking on using the country’s non-Slavic population as cannon fodder in its protracted quest for capturing Ukrainian territories.”
Chess master and political activist Garry Kasparov predicted the war will result in the collapse of the Russian Federation.
“I’m pretty sure that within the next five years, Russia will end up smaller,” said Kasparov, who predicted that the republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Chechnya “very likely will walk away.”

“Slap on some more clown makeup”
…still doesn’t change the fact that Russia has a fairly trivial total GDP.
Less than Italy, or Texas.
Other than easily substituted commodities, they produce little of value.

Apparently, The Ukrainians are asking for 48 F-16s. I guess they will have them before Christmas.
Got a little chubster from that, did ya?
Most normal guys never forget the Carl's Jr video with Charlotte McKinney:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlUvQkW4B1k
You start typing one-handed thinking about Storm Shadow missiles, BooBoo...
Guess
It’s a wee bit after Christmas, chubster boy.
You are just a denialist.
Superior Western weapons are now on the way, in a big way - and Russian forces will have to take them on the chin.
The heady days of Russian forces advancing 6 Km across farmland, and capturing a village with a pre-war population of around 300, may be your peak for this year.
The 2024 Ukraine aid passed in the US Congress and EU; NATO and the Ramstein Conference. The Artillery shells, HIMARS, ATACMS, Storm Shadows, Stingers, Javelins, F-16s, Grippens, Marders, Bradleys, Leopards, M1s, Paveways, Hammers, HARMs, JDAMs, Patriots, NSAMS, and GLSDBs are all coming.
And millions of drones. Drones that can reach St Petersburg, Moscow and Kazan; and beyond. Russian forces will have to absorb all those munitions, because Putin keeps choosing to attack the neighbors.
Putin could stop anytime, but he won’t. So the civilized world has concluded the he must be stopped, and they have written the check.
When Russian forces have shot their wad, China will pounce.
"You will gladly tell me what will happen Tuesday, if I believe you today."
The US shipped the aid secretly before the bill was passed.
It was front-loaded.
You're done.
I don't understand what the heck you get from making these stupid pronouncements that never come true.
What Robotyne doink?
When the F-16s arrive, it will be like Christmas, for the freedom loving people of the world.
The F-16s are coming, as you well know, despite your petty quibbling over when.
The big picture is that Western aid continues in a big way for another year, and that will inflict grievous losses on the Russian Military - because Putin wants to attack his neighbors and steal their stuff.
The old Soviet storage yards are emptying out. When they are empty, the oppressed Tatars will have the chance of their lives, to free themselves from the Muscovy yoke.
China will pounce.
Jeebus. You've literally RIPPED The FR Ukie Clown Crown off marcusmaximus, and placed it on your own noggin.
Russia may well continue to advance in Ukraine and may hold onto conquered territory, but then what?
No pro-Russian puppet government would survive in Ukraine without Russian occupation and that would be a permanent drain on Moscow.
Russia could occupy perhaps the eastern third of Ukraine, but how do they convince Ukraine to sign a peace deal? Wouldn’t Kiev just fortify a line at whatever point Moscow decides is as much as they can hold? Would Moscow take Kiev and then leave again just to see their puppet government fall?
How does Moscow continue to pay for all of this with continuing sanctions and a dwindling savings pool?
Trump might well cut off US aid and to hell with our reputation in the far East, but Putin still needs to stop the bleeding.
Didn’t Russia fold up a year ago when they ran out of bullets? Didn’t Putin die of cancer or was assassinated? Russia ended a year ago with the brilliant Ukraine offensive that re-took Crimea? Didn’t China not help Russia and invade Siberia? All a Liberal wet dream. Besides, do we really want China to have that many resources? If they rule Russia how long before they come for us? The new Axis has gotten larger and stronger as NATO has become less and less united. What about our Empire built on dollars? BRICKs (expanded now) can hit us hard in the pocket book. We are not the powerhouse we were—we sold out to China, Vietnam and Others. A few families got rich selling us out. and if war comes they will scoot to some neutral nation to sit out the bloodshed.
Chess master and political activist Garry Kasparov predicted the war will result in the collapse of the Russian Federation.
Give Garry Kasparov, nee Weinstein his due. (As a teen, he changed his name from his father's surname to a variant of his mother's name.) He is International Grandmaster Kasparov, former World Champion, the highest rated player of all time at his retirement from competitive play in 2005, and currently the second highest rated player of all time behind only Magnus Carlsen.
That makes him a very great chess player who dabbles in politics. Kasparov lives in the United States. He was born in Azerbaijan to an Armenian mother.
Yes, the Turks will quickly absorb them.
Of course they will. Everybody wants a piece of those big softies. They were a pushover for Germany and now they are being a pushover for Ukraine with the new support package.
Which year will depend on whether it is Orthodox Christmas or not.
You might have to give some odds. We have a 35T head start.
That is true! :)
It is just a demonstration that Ukraine has more missiles than it needs.
The rest of their production is crap, including their weapons.
It is a shame the Russians need to fight with such inferior weapons. If they had good weapons, not just shovels, they would not be losing to Ukraine so badly.
