The dying days of the Russian Federation? Vladimir Putin's empire could follow in the footsteps of the Soviet Union
Financial Post (Canada) ^ | 16 April 2024 | Diane Francis

Posted on 04/29/2024 6:03:51 PM PDT by BeauBo

The Soviet-Afghan War destroyed Afghanistan and eventually the Soviet Union, which dissolved in 1991 into 15 republics. Numerous satellite states in Europe were liberated at the same time.

History may repeat as the Russia-Ukraine war weakens Moscow, financially and geopolitically. Russia’s 2022 invasion was about reoccupying a former colony, Ukraine, but there are other Russian republics that hope to become liberated...

… in December 1991, Ukrainians voted for independence and Ukraine became the first of the Soviet republics to leave. The Baltic republics followed, as did Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and others. Now there is unrest across the Russian Federation…

… a story in the Moscow Times in February:

“Russian indigenous and minority activists have long warned that the Kremlin is banking on using the country’s non-Slavic population as cannon fodder in its protracted quest for capturing Ukrainian territories.”

Chess master and political activist Garry Kasparov predicted the war will result in the collapse of the Russian Federation.

“I’m pretty sure that within the next five years, Russia will end up smaller,” said Kasparov, who predicted that the republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan and Chechnya “very likely will walk away.”

It is now looking like it will be more than 48 F-16s,

Oh, my achin' butt!!!

You made this "Christmas 2023" prediction nearly a year ago.

I call you on it just now - and all you got is "I will gladly predict MORE F-16s on Tuesday if you believe me today".

Have you no shame over the neocon horse droppings that you post?

I can see Chechnya leaving but doubt that the other oblast will be allowed independence.

Texas will become an independent Republic before Tatarstan or Bashkortostan. Heck, even California will become part of Mexico before that happens.

Diane Francis should be more concerned with the USA and NATO splitting apart than Russia.

Ukraine was not the first of the Soviet republics to vote for independence. Lithuania declared its independence on March 11, 1990, which was accepted by the USSR in September 1991. Latvia declared independence on August 21, 1991. Estonia did so on August 20, 1991. Kyrgyzstan did so August 31, 1991. Tajikistan did so Sept. 9, 1991.

August 1991 was when the coup by the hardliners was foiled by Boris Yeltsin. Gorbachev resigned as Communist Party leader on August 24, 1991.

Multiple explosions across Crimea in recent hours.

Good news, everyone! No Azov guy assault brigades have mutinied since yesterday!

On the flip side, the day is not over on the Eastern Front.

“Good one! You could do stand up.”

Russia said they would DESTROY the Neocon M1 Tanks. How about you tell us what happened to those tanks?

“Multiple explosions across Crimea in recent hours.”

Rumor has it that the bridges across the Dniper will bear the same fate as the Kerch bridge - but one HUGE difference, the Dniper bridges are VITAL for supplying some 150,000 Ukrainian soldiers. Kerch...not so much, it’s now bypassed by a new train line.

Are you predicting that Ukraine will not receive F-16s?

Good Lord, man!

YOU predicted that the F-16s would be there by Christmas 2023.

And they're still not there - four months after Christmas 2023.

Is there a name for your certain brand of obtuseness? Or was someone else posting from your FR account, and you can legitimately claim that you didn't make that prediction?

So then you agree that the F-16s are coming?

Putin would be smart to pull out of Ukraine now and move his forces to secure his other possessions.

Maybe we should have a “Dead Empire Pool” and see if Russia or the U.S. collapses first.

LOL, at this point I would have a hard time placing a bet on that one. Russia's enemies are foreign and ours are home grown. Our enemies are entrenched in our academia, corporations, politics, media and our justice system.

I don't think placing a bet for drag story hour will be a winner.

This dude has pinwheels-for-eyes.

A real True Believer - he's going to be hiding out on a island in the mouth of the Dnepr after the war, waiting for the Good News of Victory from Emperor zElenskyy in the royal palace in Kiev.

Like those guys in the Imperial Japanese Army who refused to surrender until the 1960s...

I remember the story of the last Japanese holdout - he wouldn’t leave the jungle, so the Japan’s government (in 1974 or so) had to go to a senior citizen home where his commander lived and fly him to the island, where he commanded the hold out to “Stand Down”.

Maybe in 10 years Trump Jr. will have to drag out Victoria Nuland from her nursing home to get this Zeeper to also stand down.

Not going to happen.

Russia will NOT collapse, because some one wants them to.

“Russia said they would DESTROY the Neocon M1 Tanks.”

Do you mean American M1 tanks?

America provided 31, and 5 have been lost so far.

Russia lost two or three thousand tanks so far, and many thousands of other armored vehicles. This is about on par with the wipeout of Soviet-provided armor in Iraq during the Gulf War.

America has about 6,000 more M1s in inventory.

We can play this game all day. Russia is being demilitarized for pennies on the dollar, of what it would cost to do it ourselves.

“America provided 31, and 5 have been lost so far.”

...and the other 26 are NOWHERE TO BE SEEN (too embarrassing to see their carcasses). How’s the Sea of Azov doing, by the way - your buddies make it there yet?
