Students defied Columbia University's orders to vacate their pro-Palestinian protest by 2 p.m. Monday, despite warnings of suspension and after the school's president said it would not divest from Israel — a demand that has sparked protests on college campuses across the country.
"We have begun suspending students," Ben Chang, vice president for communications and a spokesperson for the university, said around 5 p.m., about three hours after the deadline passed.
The university had told student demonstrators to vacate by 2 p.m. or else “be suspended pending further investigation” and barred from completing the spring semester.
At the encampment, now in its second week, participants voted nearly unanimously to stay put.
Around 2:45 p.m. — after the 2 p.m. warning time to leave — protesters marched on the quad and chanted “Disclose! Divest! We will not slow, we will not rest!’"
A part of the encampment has been cleared to make space for the upcoming commencement ceremony for graduates, and picketers are largely sticking to the perimeters of the encampment.

As we used to say in those days - 1968 - that’s a “mouthful.” Pretty sad...if they want a replay, there might be a few heads busted this time...we can keep our fingers crossed. Maybe GA should send some of their State Troopers to Chicago to ensure the losers really lose!!

a phony show of “linking arms” won’t really help when the administration hands a long list of students to the registrar to check the boxes that say “suspended”, meaning no right to stay on campus, no right to housing, no right to meal plans, no access to transcripts and records, etc. ...
since when did cops stop carrying batons and night sticks?...start bouncing a few skulls, they’ll clear out PDQ. Chicago 1968 is your template, guys...i still watch that from time to time. Was glorious.
What do they care? They're likely not paying their own tuition anyway.
I don’t think they’re wearing masks because of Covid. I think they’re wearing masks, hoping to hide their faces from showing up on the internet. Even though they’re protesting, they still would like to get the cushy job there were expecting upon graduation from an Ivy League school
