Victor Davis Hanson: The Travesties of the Trump Trials
American Greatness ^ | 29 Apr, 2024 | Victor Davis Hanson

Tragically for the country, to stop this left-wing madness, the Trump travesties may not be the end, but the beginning of precisely what the Founders feared.

Do not believe the White House/mainstream media-concocted narrative that the four criminal court cases—prosecuted by Alvin Bragg, Letitia James, Jack Smith, and Fani Willis—were not in part coordinated, synchronized, and timed to reach their courtroom psychodramatic finales right during the 2024 campaign season.

These local, state, and federal Lilliputian agendas were designed to tie down, gag, confine, bankrupt, and destroy Trump psychologically and physically. They are the final lawfare denouement to years of extra-legal efforts to emasculate him.

Indeed, the nation is by now worn out by these serial assaults on constitutional norms: the Hillary-funded Steele dossier subterfuge; the pre-election Russian laptop disinformation campaign; the two impeachments without special counsel reports; the impeachment Senate trial of a private citizen; the effort to remove Trump’s name from state ballots; the ongoing attempt to emasculate the Electoral College; or the radical opportune changes in state election laws to ensure massive mail-in balloting.

Recently, Andrew McCarthy has reviewed in depth this coordination between White House personnel and prosecutors, long known and long denied by the left. Biden, for example, had complained to aides about Attorney General Merrick Garland’s tardiness in getting special federal prosecutor Smith appointed—and thus apparently ensuring Trump was convicted before the election.

Nathan Wade, Fani Willis’s now-fired paramour prosecutor, visited and consulted with the White House counsel’s office when he was acting supposedly as a purely local county prosecutor. The January 6th left-wing-dominated congressional committee consulted with the Biden administration in sending forth its criminal referrals about Trump’s purported role in the protests. And to handle his pseudo-indictment against Trump, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg hired Biden Justice Department official Vincent Colangeio.

Merrick Garland’s tardiness in getting special federal prosecutor Smith appointed

Ah there is the rub, they botched the appointment. Justice Thomas is questioning it.

... His appeals are not exhausted.

Every story I read merely named "a federal judge" rejected ... So it was Kaplan, himself ... well, well, no conflict there.

Thank you very much!

Nayib Bukele of El Salvador has shown the way. He rounded up tens of thousands of criminal gang members and put them in a maximum security prison. Crime practically disappeared overnight.

Trump needs to do the same with the politician gang members, the anti-Israel terrorists, crooked prosecutors and judges.

Round them up and send them immediately to a remote island prison and keep them there. Delay their hearings for the same number of years illegal foreign trespassers have their hearings delayed.

Give these ruthless scoundrels the same constitutional protection they have given American patriots - NONE !

Seems one of the issues is that he was not actually appointed and this isn't Garland's fault. It's a little problem with that Constitooshun thingee.

Worth reading the entire article. But VDH’s rhetorical questions about potential “tit for tat” prosecutions by Republicans can be answered: the Republicans will never fight back in kind.

I predict that if Trump beats the vote fraud and gets back into the WH, he'll have more support from fellow Republicans than he did in Round 1. I think there's enough political momentum to do some swamp draining and punishing of people abusing political power. I think people can be reminded of local politicians going to jail over relatively minor things like using local govt funded computers to print campaign flyers, thus the big players should at least get that much jail time.

But at best, IMHO, it'll be half as much as been done to Trump.

It’s just the final stages of their scorched Earth policy to get rid of trump that’s been in effect since 2016.

That is, either they win or everybody loses.

The leftists never think about the end game. What will happen if they succeed in taking Trump out of the race and senile Joe is back in the White House after another sleazy election? Do they think that the millions of Trump voters are just going to go back to doing their business and let the country slip into a socialist hell? Do they believe that the increasingly totalitarian track of Biden’s first term will continue without pushback? I know that some on the left want a civil war or revolution which they believe they will win and in the ashes create a new Marxist state much like the Bolshevik takeover of Russia or the the Castro revolution in Cuba. Some on the left believe they will succeed in ballot box takeovers as in Nicaragua or Venezuela and the people will begrudgingly accept a Marxist state.

However there is the problem of what to do about Trump. All of the efforts to tie him up in endless legal battles to stifle his campaign are failing as his poll numbers continue to go up. Jailing Trump would make him a martyr. Joe Biden continues to go down in the polls, the economy is crumbling and Joe himself is obviously suffering from advanced dementia. Replacing him with another candidate at the convention is possible, but increasingly unlikely as time goes on. Then the problem of Kamala who would be a disaster if Biden can no longer function. The left knows that if Trump is elected it will be judgment day in Washington and they will be stripped of power. Sadly I do not rule out an assassination of Trump as the lefts last gasp.

Maybe the ridiculously long sentences given to many of the January 6th protestors is meant to deter people from even thinking about protesting the next election even if the theft is even more blatant.
