Homework is an important tool to reinforce through reading and extrapolation what is taught in the classroom.
Tests are an important tool to determine knowledge retention.
Connecting knowledge to different memory areas is crucial for long term knowledge building. What we see, hear, and do are saved in our mind differently. Classroom instruction is passive learning whereas homework is active learning.
If we are not teaching our children to be active, life-long learners, we condemn them to a life of subjugation and brainwashing.
The problem is not the homework or the teachers, it’s the garbage curriculum that is foisted on them.
I gave homework, tried to start it in the classroom. I believe you need to visit any idea at least five times if you wan to be able to recall it in the future.
As evidence of this, I can still recall high school lessons today, (I am on the downhill side of 70. ) This is because I did homework myself and taught these lessons for 9 years, and I read each student’s homework papers. This is called learning and do not care if students think it is too much work. I have a problem with parents who think their kids have too much schoolwork each night. I realize that some teachers do assign more homework than the class needs. But I do not think one size fits every class or every student. It certainly should not be encoded in a state law.
Unbelievable. Mandatory ignorance and sloth.
If a kid lives on the street, is he assigned “Homelesswork”?
When I was a kid we didn’t have such considerate and caring legislators.
Simple solution: Have “Extra Credit” assignments that are not mandatory, but certainly help the grade.
So is getting your ass out of bed and going to work exhausting.
Meanwhile Asian students will continue to eat our lunch.
I propose that working at Taco Bell when you’re 40 is even more exhausting.
Learning is exhausting. Just issue everyone with a PhD at birth and save all the trouble, effort and money of actually getting an education.
Correct……been that way for years.
…..
Or better yet, homeschool your children.
Bingo!
According to a meme I read recently on Facebook, you can spot Baby Boomers on Facebook because they use proper grammar and spelling.
What would be the penalty for handing out “excessive homework?” Twenty years to life?
Conversation of prison inmates: “What are you in for?” “I was a teacher who gave out excessive homework. Five math story problems. They threw the book at me.”
The state is going to hell and these morons worry about crap like this?
Homework is racist...and Exhausting...
Maff is hard.
I had a teacher grab me by my locks once after lipping off (in the 70s).
That realignment cured me of any disrespect I may have had for teachers!
I remember thinking even then: I deserved it.
Today’s kids would text mommy. Had I ‘told mommy’, a sure belt-off whipping would have arrived home shortly after dad returned from work that night. I kept my mouth shut henceforth on both accounts.
