Coroners only report on manner and cause of death.

Deciding whether or not a homicide is justifiable is done by a jury or in the case of a police shooting the investigative body tasked with that job.

I suppose whether it is justified or not is determined by a police investigation or court. Or - in the case of that TV show “Justified” - by the U.S. Marshal himself. (Loved that show!)

Yup...and IIRC his sister got some serious $$$ from NBC and/or the town’s police department for their perceived negligence.

Although it's very tempting to execute child molesters there's a pretty good argument to be made against doing so. Having the DP for child molestation gives the molester an incentive to kill his victim.

Just sayin'...

There is no perfect system. Some under threat of the death penalty will kill their victims; however, some kill their victims even now at the threat of being beaten to death in prison.

It would send a strong message to have a few well-publicized executions if the victim was severely harmed; especially if the rapist forced them to abort a child resulting from the rape(s). That would indeed be an eye for an eye.

All I can say is that if pick pocketing was a death penalty offense and I pick pocketed someone I'd very probably kill the person I stole from...so he can't testify against me.

Of course child molestation is exponentially more serious than pickpocketing but the principle's the same. Kill the kid and she/he can't tesitfy against you.

No, you wouldn't.

One of the most serious mistaken thought patterns among conservatives is the same mistake progressives make -- expecting perfection! or nothing.

There is no perfect solution and there never can be. That is why science exists, to try various things and test the results, under a variety of conditions. There will never be a fool-proof answer to this problem. But what we are doing now clearly isn't good enough.
