Despite Winning the Pennsylvania Republican Primary, How Worried Should Trump Be About the 156,000 Voters Casting Ballots for Nikki Haley in Pennsylvania?
PJ Media ^ | 04/24/2024 | Rick Moran

Donald Trump won the Pennsylvania Republican primary with 82.8% of the vote. The Keystone State's primary is closed, meaning only Republicans can vote.

But is this cause for worry? Trump won Pennsylvania in 2016 by 44,000 votes. Biden won the state in 2020 by 80,000. However, former candidate Nikki Haley, who dropped out a month ago, received 16.5% of the vote in this year's primary, or about 156,000 votes. That's a healthy slice of the electorate in a state so evenly divided.

We can assume that a significant portion of Haley's votes are going to be "hold your nose and vote for Trump" voters. The Dispatch's David Drucker writes, "Protest votes in favor of Haley have been a persistent problem for Trump, signaling a portion of the GOP is dissatisfied with him despite his status as the presumptive nominee."

The Washington Post's Aaron Blake compiled a list of states with the "protest votes."

Percentages voting against Trump in closed (i.e. GOP-only) primaries/caucuses:

3/2 Idaho 15%
3/5 Okla. 18%
3/5 Tennessee 19.5%
3/5 Utah 44%
(Haley drops out)
3/19 Florida 19%
3/19 Kansas 24.5%
4/2 Conn. 22%
4/2 N.Y. 18%
4/23 Pennsylvania 16.5%— Aaron Blake (@AaronBlake) April 24, 2024

Note that most of those states are deep red or deep blue, meaning that the "protest vote" against Trump matters little. Except for Pennsylvania.

“This is a huge red flag for the Trump campaign in a battleground state,” Republicans Against Trump, an anti-Trump political initiative, wrote. “Many Republicans will never vote for Donald Trump.”

Nothing but petulant children who need a good whack upside the head!
Freaking ingrates!

DeSantis or Haley are “the perfect” and Trump is on “the good”?

“Many Republicans will never vote for Donald Trump.”

These votes for other than Trump were ‘free protest votes’. They didn’t matter except to let someone make a point. When the November elections roll around, the vote is no longer ‘free’. It has costs. They’ll vote for Trump.

those are the republicans who “stand with ukraine” and are glad that Johnson caved and gave the commies everything they wanted

Included in the Ukraine/Israel/Taiwan funding bill was roughly $4 billion for “migration and refugee assistance, which is doled out to NGOs operating along the border and tasked with giving funds and travel assistance to illegal immigrants who have been released from federal custody.

In other words, Johnson isn’t just neglecting the border crisis, he’s actively funding it.

So you can thank Speaker Johnson, who was endorsed by Trump after allowing the above to be signed into law.

I will vote for Trump, but his silence on the Ukraine bill and his endorsement of Johnson make me wonder if we are all being played.

For some people yes. DeSantis was supposedly the Trump package without the baggage (Democrats would invent some reason to take him to court) or Haley the Reagan Republican.

Whatever the reason you can rest assured the Democrats will come out and vote for their candidate, even if he is a demented old fool.

This is an example of the Rules for Radicals...hold your opponents to their own high standards while the left has no standards.

If Republicans play this game we will lose.

Utah, 44%

It seems a lot of Mormons just don't like Trump. I'm not sure why. In 2016 Egg McMuffin ran as a third-party candidate with no hope of winning...but could have taken enough votes away from Trump to tilt Utah's electoral votes to Hillary.

You needn’t be concerned. Brandon got over 900,000 votes yesterday. 140,000 more than Trump.

I imagine Trump is more concerned with semi trucks full of completed PA ballots popping up from Bethpage, NY in the wee hours on election night.
