A link within this article discussed some of the history of the 8-day "occupation" of Columbia's main campus and buildings by its anti-war, anti-establishment students in 1968. Part of the response to that hippie era of mindless anti-discrimination has been greater efforts to open the campus to "the community", which has allowed outside activists funded by global communists into this month's demonstrations, making them appear to have arisen from the university more than they actually have.

The following excerpt from the above link illustrates the sneering, anti-authoritarian beliefs of the students from the 60s that has become an entrenched attitude of entitlement at most top universities ever since:

Unlike antiwar or civil rights demonstrators of the 1960’s who were more experienced in truly brutal arrests, most students caught in the Columbia confrontations of 1968 were treated relatively lightly, though most called it police brutality.

The damage was extensive. Furniture had been smashed, shelves toppled, windows broken, filing cabinets rifled, carpets strewn with cigarette butts and papers strewn in drifts. And the detritus of an eight-day occupation was everywhere: dirty blankets and half-eaten sandwiches; posters of Lenin, Che Guevara and Malcolm X. And, of course, the residue of hatred....

To Edward Schwartz, president of the National Student Association, it was outrageous to bring 1,000 police officers onto a university campus. “The brutality of this action has pierced through all ambiguities surrounding the issues at Columbia,” he said.

Somehow, being privileged to attend an expensive Ivy university means they never have to obey the law, respect property rights or care about the needy scholarship students who just want to get an education in relative peace. Respect for the investments of centuries by institution-builders and donors? pfah!

How Columbia University Became the Epicenter of Disagreement Over the Israel-Hamas War

Because they are either in agreement with it and allow it to continue, or they are total wusses who don't have the collective backbone of a jellyfish and won't stand up to the anarchists.

Exactly right. And those Boomer Progressives atook over the country.

And they never paid any price for what they did. In fact, they were rewarded for their “activism”.

I wasn't alive then, but one of the famous incidents from that occupation, was when one of the students, David Shapiro, sat at the Dean of Columbia's desk and smoked one of the Dean's cigars, and the picture was all over the media. I remember first hearing about this, because there was an episode of Law & Order in the 90's about a murder that took place during the occupation of Columbia, and they spent a time talking about that picture, and made Shapiro a character in the episode. (Of course, they didn't use the name Columbia, but it was all about the incident.)

In Obama's case at Columbia, have to attend class, get to know any of his his 'classmates' (official class classmate Wayne Alan Root claims no one he knew in the class ever met Obama there), pay for their tuition (allegations of foreign sugar daddy paying his way or being registered as a foreign student remain undisproven). Just claim your diploma as a stepping stone to future free status.
