A four hour drive and having all your luggage, travel companions, and transportation for the region. Paying about $100 in gasoline.
OR...
Drive the car to the train station 2 hours early. Unload your luggage in to the train station. Sit on the train for 2 hours. Go to the car rental place. Load all your luggage in to the rental car.
I know which option EVERYONE will take. Those will be empty train cars. BUT.... Who cares. I’m sure politicians got a great deal on the real estate will now be worth fortunes.
There is a series streaming called “The Detectives” It is very good, and one “season” is written around High speed rail and the grift surrounding it. I highly recommend watching this series.

As a 17 year resident in and around Las Vegas, I’ve found it’s much faster and far more convenient to drive to and from Southern California. This offers no advantages over flying; fewer scheduled trips, higher fares and the actual travel time longer. A boondoggle in the making.
