The Brightline West system will reach speeds of 200 miles per hour across a 218-mile route between Las Vegas and three California stops including Rancho Cucamonga, about 40 miles east of Los Angeles...The project received $3 billion in funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the rest will be privately funded...

Ya gotta LOVE Physics.....
It’s The Law.
Always and in every way totally enforced without a constabulary.
Even the legislature is uninvolved.
“A four hour drive and having all your luggage, travel companions, and transportation for the region. Paying about $100 in gasoline.
OR...
Drive the car to the train station 2 hours early. Unload your luggage in to the train station. Sit on the train for 2 hours. Go to the car rental place. Load all your luggage in to the rental car.
I know which option EVERYONE will take. Those will be empty train cars. BUT.... Who cares. I’m sure politicians got a great deal on the real estate will now be worth fortunes.”
As a 17 year resident in and around Las Vegas, I’ve found it’s much faster and far more convenient to drive to and from Southern California. This offers no advantages over flying; fewer scheduled trips, higher fares and the actual travel time longer. A boondoggle in the making.
Any bets on how long it takes for them to claim they’re over budget and under funded?
Darwin was not totally off the mark.
As a Casino eschewer, do tell.
Don’t forget the crap on the train...drunk and noisy passengers, assaults on riders and staff, what will an earthquake do to the physical structure of the train. What happens if train is disabled in middle of hot desert with no air-conditioning? What about terrorists and sabotage? Will passengers turn to jelly if train crashed? .(186 mph) is lots of kinetic energy. How much will ticket cost? How much is taxi service in Vegas with a captive audience? LA to Vegas about 270 miles...at about 25 mpg highway...that about 11 gallons...@$5 a gallon...110 bucks two ways. At 65mph...about 4 hours...versus about 2 hrs from Cucamonga to LV. I would guess train fare is minimum $100 bucks one way. Include taxies. Tips. would make it less competitive...lots of issues...but at least it would make Calif. Rail look like the government grift and graft that it is.
On opening day 2,00 Palestinians will show up blocking the tracks near Barstow.
A sovereign nations, they make the rules and they are the law. You can win big and they will not pay and you can only sue in their courts...good luck with that!
Might be cheaper to widen the highway 15 to total of 8 lanes instead of 4. Can use more biodiesel/electric hybrids buses.
They already have plenty of 24 hour turnaround buses...for the gambling addicted.
Probably right.
There you go, with facts ‘n stuff. That will never fly around here.

That’s the same as flying
Las Vegas is a huge tourist attraction especially for people who live near the city much like Disney and the Cruise Lines are to Floridians, if you make it easier and fun for people to travel then you have a chance to be successful
They are probably are already looking at the number of people who travel from LA to Las Vegas and have calculated what percentage of them they need to convince in order to be successful, they are not trying to invent a new market but participate in an existing market
The second thing is that the train seems to accommodate more than one person at a time. That's definitely collectivist which is communist and needs to be eliminated.
A lot of Raiders fans still live in LA, so I can see them making the trek to LV for the Raiders home games.
Gambling is no longer the major draw to Vegas. They have shows, night clubs, famous restaurants, sports stadiums, machine gun shooting ranges, “gentlemen’s” clubs, concerts, real estate speculation, and sightseeing like Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire, Lake Mead, etc.
One accident, and no matter how many lanes you have, the traffic jam becomes a nightmare under a blaring hot sun.
They can have their own casinos, and strip clubs where if you give the women in hijabs a fiver they'll take off their face veils and maybe even show you a bit of ankle!
Once the Oakland A’s eventually move to Las Vegas this will only increase the traffic to Las Vegas
it better cost a tidy sum to ride it and there had better not be freeloaders and “free” tickets handed out to the sloths because otherwise, Vegas will be swamped with the criminal element just like they do in chicago etc...they ride the free trains and buses to go to prosperous areas and wreck havoc.
