This is what happens when you send people to a sleazy town to govern the whole country, far away from spouses, children, and the people they are supposed to be representing. A whole lot of them get sucked right into the sleaze. About 90 percent of what our Congresspeople do could be done staying in their home districts, where meetings, votes, hearings, and general business could all easily be conducted online. Washington’s legion of corrupt lobbyists, prostitutes and bartenders would just have to fly out to see them on their own dime.
One would think there is no shortage of women and men, above the age of consent, who are “interested” in “dating” these people in power. Either for the status, or connections and ambition, or just for fun. I suppose they need to hire professional sex workers simply because they keep quiet. Like the old saying “you aren’t paying a prostitute for the sex. You are paying her because she will leave afterwards”. So you get some kink, and the husband/wife doesn’t have it put in their faces, no wining and dining out on the town etc.
But that said, from everything I hear, it sounds like the town is a cesspool. One would think from all the rumors over the years that half the folks working in DC are into something on the side (other than business deals and fundraising scams): affairs, flings, polyamory, sexual fluidity, etc. There might be more quid pro quos in their bedrooms than there are in the halls of congress.
