The land governed by Russia has vast quantities of energy, minerals and farmland.

The land goverened by Europe has far less quantities of energy, minerals and farmland, but has warm water ports

Do you launch a war to gain those warm water ports, more of what you already have in abundance, and the burden to carry lands in the south that are a drain on the lands in the North??

That’s so 19th Century. Hong Kong (before they were gobbled by China), Japan, South Korea, the Netherlands... Are tiny countries that are also giants of commerce and industry.

One does not need to OWN natural resources but rather buy them and make stuff from them for sale. This also requires peace and the right to own private property. Governments demanding things is what leads to depredation and war.

Russia needs to join the world of modern nations and trade, not war. I guarantee they’d make far more $$$ for their people doing so. But of course, the leader won’t be a bad ass top dog.
