Interestingly, I have no idea what Tom Cruise's politics are.
I'm sure he's a liberal, but he stays pretty quiet, which is very smart.
No sense in alienating half of your fanbase.
You know, the people who pay money to see you and make you rich and famous.
The general public just thought of it as some kooky religion he was part of and that's his business. Many of his fellow actors were also Scientologists and received the equivalent of assertiveness self-help training from Scientology that helped them in their careers.
Unfortunately for Cruise, there's been a lot of bad press about Scientology of late. His last Mission Impossible movie didn't do so well, but that could have been because it was the first of a two-parter, and people are waiting for the second to binge both.
In any case, he no longer mentions Scientology much because he is smart enough to know that it will only hurt his box office and thus his ability to contribute to the financial health and public approval of Scientology.
