Progressive Democrat and ‘Squad’ member Rep. Cori Bush has racked up nearly $100,000 in legal fees in the first quarter of the year, according to her campaign finance records.
The massive legal bills come as she faces a federal investigation from the Department of Justice (DOJ) over her alleged misuse of $750,000 in campaign funds on personal security.
Bush has maintained she has done nothing wrong and is cooperating with the investigation.
The fees, which amounted to a staggering $86,000 between January and March 2024, may or may not be related to her ongoing DOJ case.
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) and House Ethics Committee are also investigating Bush’s use of campaign finances.
Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo., announced she was the subject of a DOJ investigation in January. She has said she is working with federal officials and dismissed the complaints filed against her as ‘frivolous.

Bush’s most recent FEC filing indicates she continues to pay her husband $5,000 a month despite a federal probe into her security payments and for falsifying FEC documents.
Bush changed her description of her payments to her husband from ‘security’ to ‘wage expenses,’ Arnold said, calling it ‘troubling.’
In addition to abusing campaign funds for personal use, Bush could potentially be on the hook for perjury, filing a false statement and mail fraud.
Bush’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
