Options:
1. Real criminal investigation because they have found something already.
2. Excuse for FBI to suppress what they found already.

I wonder why the administration chose to leak this via an unnamed official, as opposed to simply announcing it.

If it’s a federal waterway, why were there no massive concrete “dolphins” in place to protect the bridge pylons? Will the feds investigate themselves for negligence in that regard? Who was responsible for design, design approval, construction, etc.?

The bridge is owned by the State of Maryland. Despite the name, Interstate Highways and the bridges that carry them are owned by the states.

As to why the bridge did not have any protection, after the Sunshine Skyway collapse, that would be a question for the Maryland Department of Transportation.

The main federal involvement would be the US Army Corps of Engineers which would be responsible for keeping the channel open and at the correct depth.
