Crimea and Donbass would still be part of Ukraine if we fomented an illegal coup and installed a puppet government hostile to both the ethnic Russian population in Ukraine and to Moscow.

Did you think that Russians were going to give up their military base in Crimea that it has operated since both the US Constitution was written there?

Donbass would still be part of of Ukraine if the Minsk Accords had been implemented. But, we and NATO encouraged Ukraine to renege on the agreement.

Part of Donbass would still be part of Ukraine if Boris Johnson hadn't killed a peace deal worked out between Russia and Ukraine in Turkey in March of 2022.

It's too late now. THERE IS NO SCENARIO WHERE Crimea or Donbass EVER be part of Ukraine again...Even if, God forbid, we got involved directly, which there is absolutely no public will for.
