Jimmy Carter failed to show strength in 1980, and Iran has operated as if the west were a bunch of paper tigers ever since. Israel has been bold in retaliation, but Iran knows that Democrat Presidents have blocked Israel's more forceful attempts to respond, citing "proportionality" when faced with media propaganda aligned with anti-Israel voices.

I remember when Obama held Israel back from attacking Iran nuke development by air Trump avoided war I appreciate that he operated from strength. And he carpet bombed I thik ISIS in eastern syria IIRC.
No one has taken strong action against Iran’s nuke program, it continues. And they remain the worlds biggest supporter of terrorism. iran is slowly controlling and taking over Lebanon and Iraq making them two more of heir proxy states and syria will be next.
So who will stop them? I don’t think the saudis want war they may lose their “kingdom” from internal action.
remember Carter sent special forces by helicopter and IIRC they broke down in the dessert in a sand storm.
