VP: The Case for Glenn Youngkin
American Thinker ^ | 04/12/2024 | John Foley

Posted on 04/12/2024 10:09:21 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

As we are waiting for Donald Trump to name his running mate, we here some laudable names such as Kristi Noem, Tulsi Gabbard, Tim Scott, and other prominent figures as potential Vice Presidential material

What do we want in a Vice President? First, the idea that the VP could take the reins should something happen to the President. Given the age of Donald Trump, this is a very legitimate concern. What else? How about winning their home state? Being an asset to the ticket (Kamala fails that test)? Unifying the ticket? Being able to persuade suburban women (the ultimate swing vote nowadays) to vote Republican from the top of the ticket down?

Right now, the consensus is that there are seven swing states. Ideally, the VP should come from one of the swing states to ensure that Donald Trump can put that swing state in the Republican column. There is another swing state that has received little attention.

Virginia.

Current polling has Donald Trump within 3% in Virginia. Popular Governor Glenn Youngkin (58% approval rating, January 4, 2024 Mason Dixon Polling & Strategy) would be a tremendous asset to the Republican ticket. Consider:

1. His record on education will in particular be an asset in bringing back suburban mothers back to the Republican party. He supports parental control, brought a voice to parents concerned about the quality of their children’s education (remember his Democrat opponent stating “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach”?).

2. How he handled abortion in Virginia will put suburban mothers at ease. Remember prior Governor Ralph Northam’s famous appalling quote regarding an expansion of third-term abortions (that did not become law thanks to a Republican legislature), “And when it’s born, we will make the baby comfortable until the mother decides...”?

If they both can drop it, this would be a good pick, I think.

They have to both be on the same page.

He was co-CEO of the Carlyle Group.

What more do you need?

You mean you’ve never ever made a typo before?

excerpt: for information & discussion purposes:

7. Consider Governor Youngkin’s experience before becoming a governor — private sector. Biden/Harris are career politicians (grifters) while a Trump/Youngkin ticket represents the dynamic private sector that makes our country great. Youngkin’s experience in finance, energy, real estate, and infrastructure from a private sector perspective can only be an asset to President Trump’s private sector experience

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

voters are tired of the professional lawyer/pols who have never had a real job.

+ youngkin’s background was in private business

+ iirc, youngkin is term limited as VA guv & would be available.

+ imo, younkin is the right age to have broad appeal to voters worried about 2 old men

+ he is the type of VP that could succeed trump & give the country 12 years to MAGA

Youngkin is not well-liked among religious conservatives in VA because of a bill he signed that represented a retreat on religious freedom

I dunno, Trump used to donate to Hillary’s campaign and to other Democratas as well. That somehoe doesn’t disqualify him.

Being “consistently pro-life” is the one kiss of death for a national candidate.

The position of a Vice Presidential candidate on state laws regarding abortion is of no importance whatsoever.

It needs to be somebody the Deep State fears. JD Vance and Kari Lake would fit the bill nicely. Hell, I’d love it if Trump chose Matt Gaetz.

I think I’d get behind any of those choices. What about Elise Stefanik? Does the DS fear her? I must say, I can of liked her treatment of Christopher Wray the other day....

the bill protected same-sex marriage but it had some codicils in it that protected churches from being forced to perform same-sex marriages.

religious groups said that this move was unnecessary and would not settle the issue but only move the line that legitimizes same-sex marriage further into the mainstream.

I like Greg Abbott and some others that stand up to the feds on the border issue. I also want someone who is pro fracking, drilling, and continuing the pipelines. Kristi Noem would be a good pick for that. I like Jim Gordan too, feisty, seems to tell it like it is. There are a couple others. I almost feel sorry for the dems. The best they have is a delusional, crooked, lying, clueless, scumbag with no morals. I hope to live long enough to see him and his whole damn family rot in prison.

I used to be an advocate of geographical ticket balancing and getting swing states into play . . . in 1976 when I was 13 years old.

Clinton picking fellow (fake) southerner Al Gore shows that strategy is obsolete. Big mouths who get press (AOC, Schiff) get appeal and disdain nationwide. This generation of Americans moved a lot more than our grandparents’ generation. I live in Phoenix, AZ, and my guess is that 60% are transplants from other regions of the country. So, if Wade Boggs were the Republican VP candidate, he would get 10% more of the Massachusetts vote, and 3-4% more of the Arizona vote from migrant Red Sox fans.

Today’s campaigns are about telling a story. Trump’s story has to be MAGA, and those of us who are MAGA need it to outlive Trump himself. I support J.D. Vance as being a non-compartmentalizeable MAGA type who can appeal to disaffected JFK/Hubert Humphrey/Scoop Jackson Democrats. He can appeal to Democrats who don’t hate America. We might lose some suburban mothers who primarily want to be reaffirmed in their prejudices, and those wallet-driven Republicans who don’t care what happens to Western Civilization as long as they get theirs (good riddance).

Vance can build a philosophical skeleton under Trump’s fleshy MAGA instincts. Ohio used to be a swing state. It is still a bellwether state, and Vance is well-known in nearby Michigan, in a good way, by the right people.

See here:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/01/09/glenn-youngkin-is-no-moderate-environment/

[EXCERPT]

Last month, Mr. Youngkin announced he would pull Virginia out of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, an emissions-cutting pact among Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, in defiance of common sense and, perhaps, state law. Then, last Wednesday, the governor-elect nominated Andrew Wheeler, a former Trump Environmental Protection Agency chief and onetime coal lobbyist, to be the state’s secretary of natural resources.

He was with them for 25 years—right up until he ran for guv.

Are you really that easily duped?

(And as to your Hillary and Trump example, Trump was all about “Lock her up” right until he hosted and toasted Bill and Hill at his inaugural luncheon.)

It should probably be a conservative woman who has been consistently pro-life.

++++++++++

I would prefer Winsome Sears over Young-Kim. Not gonna happen but I like her more than the guv.

It needs to be somebody the Deep State fears. JD Vance and Kari Lake would fit the bill nicely.

Kari Lake won the legitimate vote in '22. However, those women (and not necessarily liberal women only) whom she turns off, she REALLY turns off. She would be VERY quick on the stump though, and can turn the questions quickly and pithily. She likely knows a lot of AZ pols due to her time in news media, but I would like Trump to have someone more knowledgeable about the players for Cabinet picks and Congress-wrangling at the VP level.

I will give her a pass on supporting Obama in '08, because she knew John McCain, and she didn't want to get the U.S. embroiled in a failing large-scale bloody war effort. It took me some to forgive President Trump for his Ted Kennedy contributions. I could never be a high-end real estate developer because I couldn't do that. There is a place for some realpolitik. Trump practices it, despite his veneer of being a loose cannon.

A private equity lizard-man.

Just the future MAGA wants.
