An 85-year-old Idaho woman shot and killed an intruder in her home in what a county prosecutor called "one of the most heroic acts of self-preservation I have ever heard of."
Bingham County Prosecutor Ryan Jolley said in a case review that the woman, identified Wednesday as Christine Jenneiahn, acted in self-defense and ruled it was a case of justifiable homicide.
"That Christine survived this encounter is truly incredible," Jolley wrote. "Her grit, determination, and will to live appear to be what saved her that night.

While Condon was searching downstairs, she dragged the wooden chair to which she was handcuffed into her bedroom and grabbed her .357 Magnum revolver from under her pillow, the review says. Back in the living room, Jenneiahn hid the gun between the armrest and a cushion as she "waited to see what Condon did next."

Jenneiahn told prosecutors that at some point, when Condon returned to the living room after having rummaged through her home, he again threatened to kill her.
"She ultimately made the decision that it was 'now or never' and drew her concealed 357 magnum and engaged Condon striking him with both her shots," the review says.
Condon returned fire, striking Jenneiahn multiple times in her abdomen, a leg, an arm and her chest with a 9 mm pistol, according to the review. Condon went to the kitchen, where he died from the gunshot wounds.
Jenneiahn, still handcuffed, fell over and remained on the floor for about 10 hours until her son came upstairs in the late morning and gave her a phone to call 911. Deputies responded at about 12:17 p.m., the review says.

NBC is “news”.
WTF?
“Jenneiahn, still handcuffed, fell over and remained on the floor for about 10 hours until her son came upstairs in the late morning and gave her a phone to call 911. Deputies responded at about 12:17 p.m., the review says.”
Sounds like he was in on it and the dead guy was his meth head buddy.
As someone said,
The older you get, the less of a deterrent a life sentence in prison becomes.
Basement-dwelling, late-sleeping son didn't hear the gunfight going on upstairs? How kind of him to give his mom a phone to make a call.....
Article says her son is disabled, but didn't elaborate. Could be he was scared out of his wits after encountering the bad guy. Who knows?
Her son was disabled ... evidently enough that he could not call 911 for her, but could give her the phone.
Holy crap!
She was brave and shoots well. She chose her firearm well. 357 Mag is deadly.
9mm can be deadly too. With the right ammo, I use Hornady 147 gr XTP bullets. High velocity is not the issue, bullet mass and expansion is.
Well, that’s the conclusion I jumped to——”handicapped” but she sent the burgler to the basement looking for safes—— there was multiple rounds fired, but it took him ten freakin hours to rouse himself to climb the basement stairs to check on his ancient mom,,,,,, man there is soooo much wrong with this story!
I guess so. Article doesn’t say what his disability is.
An earlier post said her son is disabled. I haven’t confirmed.
His 85 year old mom is on the floor with multiple gunshot wounds and he gave the phone to mom to make the call. He must be severely disabled to do that.
AND she sleeps with it at the ready — under her pillow!
Had this woman used a Byrna gun, the perp would have been incapacitated but still alive.
WOW! You got that right!
She was on the floor for 10 hours. Would he have been the same? Or would he have gotten up after a bit and finished the job? He's dead. She did well and saved Idaho taxpayers a cap-ton of money.
Yes. I caught that too.
Not many older women do.
Had a X military friend who was in college while I was that always put his 1911 45 pistol under his pillow. Good friend. And he was a very big guy. Nobody ever messed with him.
She was shot at least five times.
He was shot twice and died.
That’s one amazing lady, and she had good accuracy and ammo, while he had bad ammo I never want to buy.
What a pathetic man!
She chose pistol wisely. 357 Magnum with Hornady 158 gr XTP bullets is deadly. I own one.
