2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
... speaks to God . . .for no one understands him.
‘no one’ (but God) should include satan.
Whoops, I did not know I was doing ‘satan can’t understand tongues’ theology. I just believed a verse.
OK. One day we will know. Until then, I don’t have to make a big deal about it. I will wait and see, the outcome will be wonderful, either way.
My father was an Assemblies of God preacher. I’m familiar with it and I agree.

Speaking in tongues is something that no one but God should ever hear.
ANYONE speaking in tongues in public, in front of other people is an afront to God.

Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. 6But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. My daughter was able to interpret the words of a woman speaking in tongues. Her words were in Ancient Egyptian. Her words said “Behold the Lord”.
At the time, my dau. was in school studying ancient languages, so she was able to clearly understand this woman. My dau. was quite shaken by it.

I don’t like to think that private prayer in tongues is speaking to God and to satan. But that’s just me.
The “Church” is not a “building.”
It is the people.
I’d rather they be gathered in a circle speaking in tongues than being a rioting mob waving Antifa or Free Palestine flags!
Or a rioting mob waving Trump/Pence flags and Q Anon flags.
I have heard of cases where people have spoken in tongues to others to find out later that it was their native tongue.
I think the best question I heard about this was one preacher, and I don’t recall who it was, said that the question isn’t or shouldn’t be whether the gift is for today. But it should be is what’s being practiced in many churches the legitimate gift of tongues and his opinion was that the answer is, sadly, no.

I was asked to join a prayer event at a friend’s church one time, everyone standing in a group. Their pastor, who was standing next to me, started leading the entire two dozen people in that sort of babel. So I prayed in Italian and French. He was obviously leaning in, trying to hear me instead of listening to the spirit for his own prayer.
