Verse 2
2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.
... speaks to God . . .for no one understands him.
‘no one’ (but God) should include satan.
Whoops, I did not know I was doing ‘satan can’t understand tongues’ theology. I just believed a verse.
OK. One day we will know. Until then, I don’t have to make a big deal about it. I will wait and see, the outcome will be wonderful, either way.
My father was an Assemblies of God preacher. I’m familiar with it and I agree.
Satan is a man?
“Great. So we look like a bunch of kooks.”
OMG! Were there SNAKES and POISON?
Speaking in tongues is something that no one but God should ever hear.
ANYONE speaking in tongues in public, in front of other people is an afront to God.
Matthew 6:5-8 NIV
5And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. 6But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father, who is unseen. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7And when you pray, do not babble on like pagans, for they think that by their many words they will be heard. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Wow. Did not know that could cause trouble. I was just wondering is all.
Glad for the clarification.
My daughter was able to interpret the words of a woman speaking in tongues. Her words were in Ancient Egyptian. Her words said “Behold the Lord”.
At the time, my dau. was in school studying ancient languages, so she was able to clearly understand this woman. My dau. was quite shaken by it.
KJV says no man
Greek says oudeis, a stronger word; no one, nothing, - - -
3762 oudeís (from 3756 /ou “no, not” and 1520 /heís, “one”) – properly, not one; no one, nothing.
3762 /oudeís (”no one, nothing at all”) is a powerful negating conjunction. It rules out by definition, i.e. “shuts the door” objectively and leaves no exceptions. 3762 (oudeís) is deductive in force so it excludes every (any) example that is included withing the premise (supposition).
[3762 /oudeís (”not one, none”) categorically excludes, declaring as a fact that no valid example exists.]

I don’t like to think that private prayer in tongues is speaking to God and to satan. But that’s just me.
The “Church” is not a “building.”
It is the people.
I’d rather they be gathered in a circle speaking in tongues than being a rioting mob waving Antifa or Free Palestine flags!
Or a rioting mob waving Trump/Pence flags and Q Anon flags.
I have heard of cases where people have spoken in tongues to others to find out later that it was their native tongue.
I think the best question I heard about this was one preacher, and I don’t recall who it was, said that the question isn’t or shouldn’t be whether the gift is for today. But it should be is what’s being practiced in many churches the legitimate gift of tongues and his opinion was that the answer is, sadly, no.
The “Church” is not a “building.”
It is the people.

And was that Senator in the Church of people?
I was asked to join a prayer event at a friend’s church one time, everyone standing in a group. Their pastor, who was standing next to me, started leading the entire two dozen people in that sort of babel. So I prayed in Italian and French. He was obviously leaning in, trying to hear me instead of listening to the spirit for his own prayer.
LOL! Thanks for posting that. One of my favorites.
The rabbi was there as part of an interfaith service- not some random occurrence- I’d tell you the whole story but …. Nah
