schools and businesses were closing, jobs were vanishing and public health officials sometimes contradicted not just each other, but even themselves.
All of those things mentioned were at the demand of the public health officials, not because folks were dying in the streets.
IMHO, it was a test of medical fascism and completely UNnecessary.
I know I do not trust the medical profession or public health the same way.

I agree that it was a test of fascism, and not limited to medical. They needed to test to see how easy it would be to get the sheeple in line. Turns out, it was exceptionally easy.
