"Brian Dorsey, who was convicted of murdering his cousin and her husband in 2006, was executed in Missouri’s Bonne Terre state prison Tuesday"

“the death penalty is not a preventive measure nor should it be treated as such.”
Be sure to qualify this statement as executed murderers are prevented from further murders. This is a primary reason to carry out the sentence swiftly.
Quite so.
“Life without parole” is a meaningless sentence. As you pointed out it actually says nothing about how long someone will be behind bars. They want to let them out, they will, they just won’t use the word “parole”. Last time I was on a jury in Texas we found out “life” meant 10 years. And a 40 year sentence actually translated to 5 years behind bars. The justice system lies freely to juries during sentencing in Texas.
And no executed criminal has ever committed another crime. Lots of “life without parole” criminals continue committing crimes after a brief pause when they are incarcerated.
Agreed. Convicted murderers should be executed forthwith.
It deterred the dead guy! Brilliant point!
The implication is that it deters society from committing murder.
Yet murderers in St Louis will still be murdering folks and won’t think twice about it this morning.
“How about it is a 100% effective deterrent”
Murder stopped overnight in Missouri?
How about 100% effective actually meaning 100% effective?
I appreciate the earth is round content while completely ignoring that it doesn’t deter society at large in the slightest.
But hey the dead guy is deterred!
It insures life without parole plea agreements. Whereas in blue states the same murderers plea to life with parole and eventually freed. In that regard it is 100% effective.
It deters the dead. Noooo... do not truncate the ACLU abusive ACLU process, end the death penalty instead.
If they knew that by committing murder, they may well be dead within a few months, SOME would not do the dirty deed.
and even plenty more life with parole commit crimes.
It is not nearly as meaningless as the notion that the death penalty deters other murderers.
I get the confusion though-life without parole is really a temporary vacation somewhere in lala land.
Next time I’ll mix in a bunch of anecdotal, emotive bs to make my reply more appealing.
Yea killers all over Missouri woke up this morning with second thoughts. Also, criminals abide by gun laws in the land of stuff that just is not true.
I am pro death penalty, a real card carrying member of the ACLU.
He also had his final meal served to him, which included two bacon double cheeseburgers, two orders of chicken strips, two large orders of fries, and a pizza with sausage, pepperoni, onion, mushrooms and extra cheese, according to the state department of corrections.
Geez, are they sure that he just didn't spontaneously die from clogged arteries?
That’s because it’s not used.
You sounded in your post that you were a DP abolitionist. Sorry for the misunderstanding. If all these death row fiends were alerted that they would be visiting Old Sparky within a week, yes, they would have second thoughts.
“But hey the dead guy is deterred!”
“Murder stopped overnight in Missouri?” YES. The chance this fiend will kill again is now 0%. 100% deterred.
The “no deterrence” argument is the cudgel that LIBERALS use to eliminate the death penalty altogether.
Could you Guarantee this killer would never murder a couple and rape a dead corpse if he lived? Of course not.
I can 100% GUARANTEE with his execution that he will NEVER do it again.
COMPLETELY effective deterrence.
Now that what I would order for my last meal before my execution!! Though I would have included fried fish and left off the two large French fries.
There are really two cases, “life” sentences that aren’t and the death penalty.
When you produce a dead criminal that is still committing crimes you will have a point.
