New Zealand’s conservative government announced Sunday it has tightened work visa rules as “unsustainable” migration levels soar to near-record highs.
Low-skilled applicants now have to fulfil English-language requirements and are allowed to stay for three years – down from five previously – amid fears that high immigration levels are driving up house prices.
“Getting our immigration settings right is critical to this government’s plan to rebuild the economy,” said Immigration Minister Erica Stanford.
Close to a record 173,000 non-citizens migrated to New Zealand last year.

No, we are the only country that isn’t allowed to have secure borders and control who enters the country. Other countries expect to control such things as a part of national sovereignty.
They'll never get rid of these people after three, five or any amount of years - ending their stay will be deemed "cruel" - and racist, of course.
They'll use "The Children" as an excuse, as always, as in "My children were born here, are in school, know nothing except this country," and/or their "own country is too dangerous to send them back to."
Why TPVs in the U.S. (temporary protetion visas) which were only supposed to be for three years have been extended repeadly, by decades and decades.
Of they’ll say that the whites were the original “illegals” when they stole the land from the “peaceful” Maoris.
Canada decided on large scale immigration to deal with low birth rates, and that’s largely what has been driving their real estate prices.

It seems to me that there is no way out once a nation starts down that road. The things that have happened in the country over the last 30 years is mind boggling, and much of it can be traced to the input of emotional, liberal women.
