Tesla FSD Beta – v12.3.3 Supervised Rolling Out
Autopilot Review ^ | April 2024 | unattributed

Posted on 04/07/2024 11:46:06 PM PDT by SunkenCiv

FSD Beta V12.3.3 (2024.3.10) – Tesla FSD V12.3.3 is rolling out to vehicles in North America, soon after v12.3.2.1 was released. This release changes the designation from "Beta" to "Supervised", which apparently means that it requires supervision, according to Tesla: "Under your supervision, Full Self-Driving (Supervised) can drive your Tesla almost anywhere."

FSD Beta 12 upgrades the city-streets driving stack to a single end-to-end AI neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300k lines of code. Elon Musk said that Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 12 will be released more broadly soon, but has only rolled out to "special groups" so far. We'll see if this release is the broad release.

Not to worry, Civ. It’s all been well thought out. Absolutely nothing can go wrong.

Prosperity is just around the corner, and self-driving cars are only months away (and have been since 2017).

Snake oil.

Down under, where cars hang from Earth on the opposite side of the road, Tesla added a setting to just invert all the input bits and reverse their order.

Aircraft fly themselves 99% of the time. Given, that’s actually easier than a car navigating complex streets and there’s far more use-cases to handle.

FSD is inevitable. Ultimately, roads deaths will go down as a large number of incidents are due to drunk, distracted, or fatigued driving - the three things computers don’t experience. They also have a better view of everything going on around the vehicle.

For me, the interesting part is using AI. When an incident occurs, and loss of life happens, how do you explain why the system failed? There’s no safety standards to define how you can know if an AI model has been trained appropriately. If the defense is “we need to train the AI more for similar situations”, how will a court determine damages? To my understanding, this is usually based around identifying if there was “ignorance, incompetence, and laziness”. Which is it?

It’s taken longer than what people thought but the next several years will probably bring notable changes, especially for L3.

Exclusive: Tesla scraps low-cost car plans amid fierce Chinese EV competition

Nope. The US ‘big three’ pivot back to hybrids — my, that didn’t look orchestrated or anything — eliminated the need for the lower-priced Tesla model. The other part of that response was the price cuts.

Hybrids have an apparent advantage in that vehicle fueling remains the same, along with all the familiar maintenance stuff. However, from a physical standpoint, half of the drive train is always dead weight, and the vehicles are more complicated and expensive to produce.

The only important threat from Chinese EV makers is that their products are such crap they could queer the US pure-EV market for a few years.

I don't know, what will happen regarding road rage incidents? A road rager will cut off an FSD EV and get no angered response. Takes the thrill out of driving for the road rager.
