Maryland governor: Baltimore bridge recovery operation ‘remarkably complex’

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) said the Baltimore bridge recovery operation is “remarkably complex” as crews work to remove the cargo ship that hit the Francis Scott Key Bridge last week as well as the debris.

Moore joined NewsNation’s ‘Cuomo’ late Thursday, telling host Chris Cuomo the ship is “literally the size of the Eiffel Tower, and the weight of the Washington Monument.”

Moore said 27,000 tons of bridge debris is“pancaked” at the bottom of the river.

When the ship struck the bridge, an eight-man construction crew was working to repair the road surface. The collapse was so fast they had no time to evacuate. Two of them died and four are still missing.

I believe they have already cleared two lanes.

Yes, but very shallow, 11 feet and 14 feet. Tugs and some barges can pass. Main channel is something like 50 feet deep so ships cannot use them.

Part of the bridge is on MV Dali possibly pinning Dali’s bow to the bottom. Once bridge on Dali is removed, cargo containers (including hazardous materials) on forward part of ship must be removed. All this has to happen without Dali moving so that Dali doesn’t sustain further damage and possibly sink where she is.

And then there’s the bridge itself. It slammed into the bottom of the shipping channel and all of it has to be completely removed. This will require at least partial disassembly of the metal work of the bridge—underwater diving in 0 visibility with at least some tidal current and then of course sometimes the weather acts up.

So, it seems to me the MD governor is right. They are dealing with something ‘remarkably complex’.

All of this info came to me via the What’s Going On With Shipping YouTube channel, which I recommend.

If they can delay removing the submerged bridge long enough then it could become a coral reef, attract endangered species and determined to be off limits by envirowhackos.

Eight-man? This activist Hill spinmeister is now cancelled. The illegals weren't working, standing by the road holding shovels; they were on break time in their cars.

Lots of money will be spent on the project but the bridge will not be built.

First lets see if they clear the wreckage enough to reopen the harbor. That might happen, but it is far from certain.

America built incredible structures in a short time during the great depression. In the Biden depression,Joe will be in the ground by the time the new bridge is built.

If Trump had been in charge then the channel would be open by now.

Take the over. The MDOT Secretary is the former head of DC Metro where escalators never work, train maintenance is abysmal, track fires are common and station closures are a regular occurrence.

Whenever they say ‘complex’, their mind goes to ‘complete’ ‘sex’.

Then they get a thrill up their leg.

Between the Gov, the hip hop Mayor of Baltimore, and the totally token Baltimore Port Commissioner…DEI rules. And lets throw in Buttgig for another underserved class.

We know that d*psh*t. Just do your job as governor and facilitate and support the work that needs to be done and otherwise stay the hell out of the way.

Do they even need this bridge ?

It is not an absolute necessity. Clearing the debris and opening the port is the immediate objective.

Oh Gawd I didn't know that. The Metro system is nothing but a jobs program that only incidentally provides transportation service.

When you live in idiocracy, even clearing the leaves from the streets is "complex". There is a reason that 3rd world countries don't have much of an infrastructure, and we are now a 3rd world country.

Just setting up the grifting, fraud, waste, and abuse. Nothing to see here. Everyone knows that as we progress as a society, regular things that people used to do with ease get so much harder...
